The Aviary’s first location is in Chicago, started by chef Grant Achatz of three-Michelin-starred Alinea restaurant, and his first New York outpost is inspired by the success of the renowned Chicago bar. Located within the Mandarin Oriental New York, The Aviary has a prime location on the 35th floor of the hotel with views over Central Park and the Manhattan skyline with some of the best drinks in the city. It celebrates the rich cocktail culture of New York, and takes you on a creative and interactive food and drink journey. The cocktails are tiny works of art — similar to a dish from a Michelin-starred restaurant — and feature seasonal, fresh produce (like herbs and edible flowers). Each drink is artfully displayed and can be paired with dishes whose flavors complement each other perfectly. The Aviary also has a hidden, speakeasy-esque bar, The Office, run by the same team. The Office features pre-Prohibition-style cocktails and a more masculine-style space with leather couches, cowhide-lined chairs and lots of dark wood accents. The drinks are the star here — and you can order from the set menu or have an expert mixologist craft something to your preferences.
