The Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art To Present Two New Projects

The Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art is presenting two exceptional projects in celebration of its 30th Anniversary.  From October 25, 2014 through February 22, 2015 New York based architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro will playfully inhabit Jean Nouvel’s iconic building and the Argentine artists Guillermo Kuitca takes hold of a piece by David Lynch and uses it as a starting point for a dialogue with the filmmaker and artist.

Diller Scofidio + Renfro will use the visually rich backdrop of Nouvel’s transparent galleries to create a new sonic environment using “dumb” and “smart” materials and systems.  Guillermo Kuitca will reinterpret the strange living room created by David Lynch for his 2007 exhibition at the Foundation.  The Argentine artist explores David Lynch’s imagination and invents a new geographical and mental space, both lyrical and unsettling.

These two installations, dialogues between architects and artists, transport the Cartier Foundation in extraordinary ways, drawing the visitor into a distinct and unique sensory experience.

In addition, from September 4th through September 21st, in conjunction with the presentation of the piece The Monument to Language by James Lee Byars (1932-97), scientists and artists will engage in a conversation with the artist’s sphere.  Created by Byars for the Cartier Foundation in 1995, The Monument to Language is a 3 meter wide gilded bronze sphere.
