One morning, a few weeks ago, I had a moment of clarity (and sanity) whilst I loaded up on my ritual caffeine before starting my day. As I poured the usual sweetener into my morning latte, I realized this could not be good for me. I decided to toss the latte (foam art still intact) and research what I was really putting in my body.
You do not have to be the CIA to quickly find out on the Internet that the things we digest on a daily basis are not good for us. Common sense tells us that if there are more chemicals listed in the ingredients than the can of Chlorox under our sinks, we probably should not be putting it into our bodies.
I’ve never been one to diet or fall victim to one of the fad juice cleanses, but in my research I stumbled upon a program in which really caught my eye. Formulated by a well-respected cardiologist in New York City, The Clean Program was a different breed of diet and cleanse.
What I found out in my preliminary research of The Clean Program, is that this 21-day cleanse, detox, and diet was the answer to my simple question I had earlier that morning, “How could all this junk I am putting in my body be good for me?” The answer was simple: it was not.
After reading about The Clean Program online, discovering all of the positive feedback from people who have done it on The Clean Community Blog, and even talking extensively to Dr. Junger’s partner, Dhru Purohit, I decided that I should try it. After all, I did have that epiphany earlier in the morning, and was certainly curious about my overall wellbeing and health.
A mere few days after deciding I was going to go for it, The Clean Program package was delivered at my doorstep. Against typical fad diet/cleanse fashion, the Program is not out to starve anyone. On the contrary, the Program asks you to first ease in to it by starting with a 3-day pre-cleanse. The 3-day pre-cleanse consists of eating from the elimination diet, which is essentially taking out everything that is bad for us or has the potential to cause allergic reactions in our body. Essentially, we begin to eat what we’re supposed to eat.
After the 3-day pre-cleanse, I started the 21-day Program. The Program consists of a shake (powder provided by the Clean team) for breakfast and dinner, and then a solid meal (off the elimination diet) for lunch. Every meal is accompanied with supplements and probiotics to ensure you’re getting all the essential nutrients.
I am one week into the 21-day Program and am feeling great. I will not lie; the first couple of days were not easy, as my body had to adjust to the habit of having a latte every morning. Once I realized I did not need that jolt of caffeine to be clearheaded and energized, I was happy in my new routine of 2 shakes a day and 1 full meal.
I still have a ways to go but I am looking forward to feeling the effects of eating cleaner, healthier, and more nutritious foods. I will definitely update you once I have completed the Program and have truly felt the great advantages of taking part of this revolutionary new cleanse, detox and diet.
