Ltd by Priyank Sukhija and Bent Chair by the father-daughter duo – Neeraj Jain and Natasha Jain. Reigning hearts all around Mumbai, Plum now brings its charisma and charm to Delhi. Lauded for its one-of-a-kind concept and its lush breathtaking interiors, Plum by Bent Chair is India’s most Instagrammable restaurant with over 200 Instagram-worthy food and decor items present at the venue. In talks with Priyank Sukhija (PS) and Natasha Jain (NJ) to know more about Plum by Bent Chair.

Plum by Bent Chair is a unique collaboration between food and retail space. Please tell us how this idea originated.
PS: It was a decision of the moment that changed our lives. When I was creating Lord Of The Drinks in Mumbai, Natasha asked if we could place a small kiosk for her brand, Bent Chair, at one side. It seemed like a good idea, and we developed it further till we came up with this unique concept of Plum by Bent chair- India’s First True Retail Outlet. I handled the food and Natasha thought of the interiors and hence, Plum by Bent Chair was born. To be honest, we were sceptical about how Mumbai will react to it, but our experiment was a success, seeing as it was loved by both food lovers and furniture shoppers.

Bent ChairWhat are the USPs of Plum by Bent Chair’s interiors and food? 
NJ: When it comes to interiors, Plum by Bent Chair showcases all of the quirky and unique decor designs by Bent Chair. Fun fact, all of the interiors (and the art stones in the front) have been made in India. Plum displays all our collections and is all about the small, iconic and eye-catchy details. The ceiling flaunts our tropical collection, cat lights, and the Rocky Star lanterns. Every dimension of the layout is well thought out and blends into each other, while still holding the distinctiveness of each collection. The bar looks magical with snitch lights and unique design-changing wallpaper, making Plum a place to indulge in every second and every sight. The cherry on top of the cake, I believe, is the winged 12-feet bear installed outside the venue. Our team lovingly calls it ‘Plummy Bear’, although the sculpture is named “Where are you”. The posture, title, and position of our Plummy Bear symbolize our quest for creativity and the fond remembrance of our inspiration, Lawrence Argent.

PS:
 I think it is safe to say that the food at Plum by Bent Chair is the best food amongst all my outlets. Our Chef, Sagar Bajaj, has curated signature dishes, which truly reflect our eccentricity and vision of the ‘Perfect Food’.

You both have been doing fabulous in your respective fields, what is it like working together?
NJ: Working together is like living a dream and a nightmare, simultaneously! No two humans are the same-their temperament, their attitude, their way of handling stress and managing things- absolutely everything. Priyank and I are quite the opposites, and so, there is a lot of patience and learning involved. Despite that, we are each other’s strength too. We understand each other’s vision and also give the much needed creative space to work in respective fields. We are both venturing into zones that are outside our comfort, but we love every moment of it. Working together is a challenge that we love to take up every day.

So, who manages what? 
NJ: Given our respective expertise, Priyank handles the food and hospitality aspect of Plum by Bent Chair, while I handle the decor and design.

What innovations have you introduced in your food and beverage operations?
PS: Plum by Bent Chair offers authentic Pan Asian dishes, curated by Chef Sagar Bajaj and Priyank Sukhija. Apart from the usual sushi, dim sum and nigiri, Plum also serves ceviche, baos and chirashi. Here, some signature innovations include dishes like Sweet and Sour Roast Duck Bao, Salmon Avocado Chirashi, Baked Scallion Chilli Prawn Planter and more. With specially sourced ingredients and authentic Asian recipes, here food is simply ‘Plumazing’. Spicy Mock Dumplings, Charcoal Dumplings and Quinoa Chicken Poached Dumplings are variants never served anywhere before.

Aerocity is the new hub for restaurants. How is Delhi-NCR accepting it? 
PS: Aerocity not only flaunts 5-star establishments and well-known brands from the F&B industry, but it also features unique brands that cater to different niches and have made a name for themselves in the segment. Delhi -NCR has never seen anything like this, but they are coming around to this concept. The idea is slowly picking up and starting to stir quite a few conversations.

Do you have any expansion plans for Plum by Bent Chair? 
PS: We actually do! Presently, we’re planning to open another outlet of Plum by Bent Chair in the heart of Janpath, and then, maybe even outside India!
