THE DOGS OF ROME

Bloody KnifeNow that the dog days of summer are gone, it is time to catch up on some good reading. This fall, an excellent book to read is The Dogs of Rome: A Commissario Alec Blume Novel (Bloomsbury; Hardcover; 400 pages; $25) by Conor Fitzgerald. It is Fitzgerald’s first book in a new Italian crime series.

Arturo Clemente, an animal activist, is murdered in his Roman apartment by a mysterious slasher. When his wife, an eminent politician, finds his body, she calls the Ministry of the Interior, instead of the police. Therefore, by the time police inspector Alec Blume arrives at the crime scene, it has already been compromised. As the case continues to unfold, Blume, an American expatriate, soon realizes that he has more to worry about than just solving the case.

Bookworm’s Review: 4 bookmarks. If you are looking for a new crime series or are intrigued by murder, organized crime, politics, and Italy, then you will love following along with Blume on this case.
