DECEMBER annually
The Escalade Celebration is a commemoration of the heroic victory of the Genevans against invading Savoyard troops on 12 December 1602.
Hailed as one of the most beautiful historical festivals in Europe, the parade is formed entirely of volunteer members of the Geneva Historical Society. Dressed in period costume, participants commemorate the victims of that tragic December night with exuberant re-enactments of duels and music recitals. The celebration reaches a crescendo with a massive bonfire party in front of St. Pierre Cathedral.
