From October 23 to 30, the Victoria Theatre will play host to Richard Wagner’s acclaimed opera “The Flying Dutchman”. This marks the first time that the opera is staged in Singapore and will feature a mix of international and local artists in lead roles.
The opera focuses on The Flying Dutchman as he travels the world’s oceans as he searches for a woman who will be faithful to him. The twist in the story is that the Flying Dutchman is only able to search for such a woman once every seven years. It follows the man as he looks for a way to break the curse and the circumstances, which lead to him meeting Senta. For those familiar with the story, we won’t go into too much detail; those unfamiliar with the tale, well this is just one more reason to get your tickets.
Featuring Martin Ng and Nancy Yuen in the lead roles of The Dutchman and Senta respectively, the Asian leads will take the stage on October 27. On the other four days, the International leads will take the stage with Ukranian baritone Oleksander Pushniak as The Dutchman and Australian soprano Kathleen Parker and Senta. Organised by the Richard Wagner Association (Singapore) and OperaViva and in association with The Finger Players the show is set to be one that will entertain those with a love for opera.
