The full fondue experience – St Moritz Soho

Tasting cheese fondue was something I longed to do, when I was over Switzerland. “You get drunk from it” my cousin exclaimed to the late teen me. Those words have been stuck in my head ever since. Several years have passed, and I finally tracked down once place in London, which specialises cheese fondue. St Moritz has been established since 1974, located in the heart of Soho. I have gathered my two other food buddies along with me to try out the fondue.

Seated by a very tight corner we glance over the menu, for a min of 2 people fondue is £17.90 per person. With my cousin’s words still ringing in my ear, I didn’t quite know what to expect. Would I get drunk from the experience? To be on the safe side we choose the tomato blend.

The fondue came in bubbling little cauldron; the FONDUE VALAISANNE AUX TOMATES was served with new potatoes and bread. Dipping our long stemmed forks into the mix we watched our pieces of potatoes and bread coat itself with the stringy cheese. The new potatoes had a lovely velvet texture and the bread baked with a soft springy touch. Both ingredients absorbed the strong tasting wine well, and there was plenty left over.

As the night progress, our pot of bubbling cheese started to become stronger and stronger in taste. One of my friend faces were turning a beetroot red by the end of the night.

St Moritz is perfect for a small get together with friends and I would love to go back to try the rest of the flavours.
