When the best of fashion, wedding planning, hospitality and tourism world came together to make the two grand weddings of Bollywood a memorable affair.
Deepika-Ranveer
On October 21, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh took it to their Instagram and announced their wedding. After months of speculation, they confirmed their wedding that took place on November 14 and 15 at Lake Como, Italy. The royal wedding took place in two beautiful and equally resplendent ceremonies at a luxurious villa in Italy. As Deepika wanted it to be a private affair, no mobile cameras and selfies were allowed during the two days at the venue. The star-couple released two images on the 15th evening on their respective social media pages. The pictures were taken one each at the Konkani and Sindhi wedding ceremony and the internet was dazed under the effect of the magic spell that the pictures have cast on it. Fans and industry friends of the beautiful couple all reacted to the pictures, which have gone viral. The entire country was eager to know what the couple wore on their big day. And when it came into light, it was nothing surprising. They chose to wear the celebrated wedding designer of India-Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
It was later clarified by the designer that the sari was given to Sabyasachi later who redesigned it to team it with the veil and the jewelry. The red gold zari Kanjeevaram featured the design of Gandaberunda (two-headed bird), the mythological figure, in its body. The bird was the emblem of the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore under the Wodeyar kings. The sari was actually bought by Deepika’s mother Ujaala Padukone from Angadi Galleria, Bengaluru, where K Radharaman had designed it. The entire clarification was raised by senior journalist Shefalee Vasudev who runs her own fashion and lifestyle website and Sabyasachi thanked her for the same. He captioned it saying, “Thank you Shefalee Vasudev @shefatwork @thevofashion for aligning the information. During the two-day affair According to Bollywood paparazzo Manav Manglani, during the two-day affair, traditional Sindhi and South Indian delicacies were served to the guests. And recently in an interview, Ranveer Singh also said that the couple did around 22 tasting for the wedding menu to make sure that the best was served to the guests during the royal wedding. The dreamy wedding was planned and managed by The Wedding Design Company.
All this was followed by 3 receptions in India (1 in Bengaluru and 2 in Mumbai) and one musical night that was hosted by Ranveer’s Sister. During the Bengaluru reception, Deepika wore a golden saree gifted by her mother from Angad Galleria and was styled by Sabyasachi, while Ranveer wore classic piece by veteran Rohit Bal. The Mumbai reception saw the couple in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Rohit Bal respectively. The last reception that was dedicated to the Bollywood industry saw Deepika in a custom-made Zuhair Murad gown and Ranveer looked dapper in a Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna suit.
Priyanka-Nick
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas got engaged in late July in Greece and capped off their engagement on the bride-to-be’s 36th birthday in London–in a romantic gesture right out a scene of a movie. The much-awaited wedding had no formal announcement, but there were speculations that it will take place in the first week of December. The venue for the wedding was clarified when Priyanka posted a picture recently and then her mother clarified it to the media as well. The statement wedding took place at Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur. The first glimpse of the wedding rituals came to the world when Priyanka Chopra posted the candid images of Mehndi from the venue. For her Western wedding ceremony, Priyanka wore a custom gown by Ralph Lauren. The groom also wore a custom look by Ralph Lauren. Not only this, all the members of both the families wore the custom-made outfits , and Priyanka took it to her Instagram to thank the designer to make it all happen.
Priyanka’s semi-sheer, the long-sleeve gown was a “hand-beaded and hand-embroidered dress featuring floral and scroll motifs, lace-effect tulle appliqués, scalloped sleeves and a high-neck collar,” People magazine reported that had the exclusive rights to the images and videos of the entire wedding. According to the magazine, it took 1,826 hours to create the outfit. The column dress beneath the embroidered outer layer consisted of 2,380,000 mother of pearl sequins. The bride accessorized the look with custom Jimmy Choo shoes. Her veil, a simple, raw-edged tulle net, stretched 75 feet long, blanketing the aisle behind her. It required 6 handlers to guide it down the aisle and place it perfectly for her ceremony. The gown was not only stunning but also sentimental. Eight different words or phrases with importance to the bride were hand-stitched onto the dress, including her husband’s full name, Nicholas Jerry Jonas; their wedding date; and her parents’ names, Madhu and Ashok. A piece of Priyanka’s mother-in-law Denise Jonas’ wedding dress was also sewn into the look, as People reported. To date, this is the only custom-made wedding dress Ralph Lauren has made for any woman aside for his family. Lauren has previously only designed bridal gowns for his daughter, daughter-in-law, and niece, People mentioned.
As for her other events, Chopra turned to India’s fashion A-list. Those who have dressed Priyanka and other Bollywood superstars in the past, like Sabyasachi and Khosla Jani, both played major roles in Chopra’s wedding wardrobe as well. The wedding weekend was planned by Sandeep Khosla and Aditya Motwane, founder-owners of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Motwane Entertainment & Weddings. The designer-duo worked with the couple to plan and design their entire wedding weekend, designed the multi-coloured and ivory and gold looks the bride wore to both her Mehndi and her Sangeet. Sabyasachi worked with Chopra on her all-red wedding ceremony look, a stunning embroidered lehenga. The designer described the intricate work that went into the piece on his Instagram. While Nick’s brothers, Joe and Kevin, as well as Joe’s fiancé, Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, played key parts in the couple’s bridal party, Jonas and Chopra also welcomed countless VIPs for their celebrations in India and hosted 225 guests in total.
The couple’s first reception took place in Delhi, that saw the close friends, family members, politicians and socialites as well. Stunning Priyanka was seen in a Falguni Shane Peacock lehenga that was accessorized with jewellery by Khanna Jewellers. The major highlight of the gala evening was the presence of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India. The couple is yet to host their Mumbai reception that is expected to see all the bigwigs of the industry. The world is waiting to see the glimpse of the last phase of the dreamy wedding that is expected to be first displayed at Priyanka Chopra’s Instagram profile that she has recently updated to Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
