The Waldorf Towers in Manhattan, one of the top hotels in the world, is the overly upscale portion of The Waldorf Astoria. The Towers, built in 1893, is the top twenty floors of The Astoria. When I stayed there, I was lucky enough to get an Old Victorian style luxury room on the 41st floor (out of 42 possible floors). My room came complete with wonderful views of New York’s famous skyscrapers, terry cloth robes, an umbrella, and a marble-tiled bathroom.
When I needed some ice, there was no ice machine to visit. When guests want ice, they just dial room service and a butler will deliver ice, along with drinking glasses. If a guest wants to workout, the staff has it covered. Guests in The Towers are entitled to complimentary use of gym shoes, socks, t-shirts, and shorts.I decided to hang out in the main lobby for a couple of hours. It was amazing to see the different types of people who passed through this grand hotel, but there was not a lot of diversity. I was surprised by the lack of diversity, especially since New York is a diverse and international city.
Food can definitely be pricey at the hotel’s six restaurants. A room service hamburger will set you back $40. For breakfast, I ate a complimentary breakfast in the lounge reserved for The Towers’ crowd. Another option would have been the renowned $75 Sunday Champagne Brunch in the main lobby. Luckily, I was able to experience this hotel’s myriad of luxuries without having to pay a five-star hotel price because the hotel was running a spring special. The total price for the room, plus tax, was less than $350. That is a bargain considering the hotel’s Presidential Suite goes for $9500 nightly. Yes, that is $9500 nightly. To sum up my stay, I felt like I stayed at “The Height of Luxury”.
