London’s five-star hotel Sheraton Grand London Park Lane has long been making guests happy through its luxurious amenities and attentive service, but now the hotel is bringing science into the equation. By partnering with the behavioral scientist and psychologist Patrick Fagan, the hotel has created London’s first Five Senses Suite, a hotel suite that’s designed for optimum happiness.
Integrating an array of items and experiences that have been found to be conducive to a happy state, the new suite offers a more memorable and multi-sensory experience. After being greeted by the hotel’s dedicated Five Senses Concierge, guests will be able to choose their towels from a luxury bath linen menu, their favorite scent and preferred champagne or sparkling wine. The specially curated ‘Extra Dose of Happiness’ menu also offers experiences such as an in-suite ‘happy hour’ complete with champagne cocktails served by a private mixologist, a packing and unpacking service, a bath butler and a beauty experience at a nearby Mayfair salon.
With research based around a questionnaire, facial coding and heart rate monitoring, Fagan found that the sound of jazz made three out of four participants feel happy, while soft towels ignited feelings of contentment in 89 percent of people. The color green proved to be one of the most positive, with flowers making almost 72 percent of people feel more content. Champagne and fresh fruit encouraged the highest release of endorphins during a taste test, and when it came to smell, the fresh scent of the ocean came out top. Responding to these findings, the hotel has transformed the luxurious Grand Suite overlooking London’s leafy Green Park to take on these characteristics.
Commenting on the new Five Senses Suite, the hotel manager Kieran Quinn says: “Sheraton Grand London Park Lane has gone above and beyond for its guests for 90 years and with the creation of London’s Five Senses Suite we are now offering our guests an even more memorable experience. This new offering absolutely elevates our five star service to the next level and encourages guests to make the most out of their stay with us with an added guaranteed boost of contentment.”
The Five Senses Suite is priced from $2,064 per night. sheratonparklane.com
