Editor’s Notes: With the first iteration of the Mizuno Wave Prophecy Sorayama, it was clear that the namesake artist’s “sexy robot” art played a part in the aesthetic of the shoe. More than anything, the shoe looked straight out of the future, or ready to run straight into it. Supposedly, all good things come in pairs. Mizuno and Hajime Sorayama agree with that math, so they’ve put together a second iteration of the next-gen silhouette.

For the second outing between Japanese sportswear giants Mizuno and Hajime Sorayama, that futurist DNA is clearly present. When you’ve got a silhouette that’s being viewed “as one of the craziest-soled sneakers on the market,” why make any drastic changes?
The 10th generation of Mizuno’s Wave Prophecy retains the foundation of the collaboration, while the robotic silver coloring is stripped back to make way for a stealthy all-black approach. Nods to Hajime’s signature sexy robots aren’t lost with the inverted coloring, however, as the metallic wrapped base midsection and reflective detailing remain.
It’s a fair bit sharper than BAPE‘s recent Sorayama partnership, though Mizuno’s sneaker lacks the spiffy cyborg lace covering. Still, given the glossy overlays and tech-y elongated shape, the Wave Prophecy Sorayama looks like a better fit for the deck of the Enterprise.
