The Most Lavish Hotel Suites in the US

With Elite Traveler’s highly anticipated database of the world’s top suites poised to launch this month, we have carefully examined the data to create an accurate ranking of the most expensive hotel suites in the entire US.

The extensive database will feature 400 of the most lavish suites from the best hotels and resorts around the globe. Presented in an interactive, searchable format, our top suites database will allow travelers to narrow down luxury accommodations based on their desired criteria, including location, size and price.

Based on comprehensive data, our shortlist of the most expensive US suites is based on the cost per square foot, rather than price per night, answering the all-important question of which of the top hotel suites in the US offers the best value.

It will come as no surprise to regular visitors to see that New York offers travelers the least space for their money. An impressive three out of five of the most expensive hotel suites in the US are located in the city that never sleeps, outpricing even Las Vegas’ opulent Empathy Suite, complete with an entire gallery’s worth of Damien Hirst art.

1. Five Bedroom Terrace Suite, The Mark – $17.98 per sq ft

Surprisingly, it is not The Mark’s top suite that is its priciest. Instead, at $86,094 per night, the 4,788-sq-ft Five Bedroom Terrace Suite is the most expensive suite per sq ft in the US, according to our extensive database.

But what does this hefty fee of $17.98 per sq ft buy you? In short, a lot. Despite being not even half the size of The Mark’s Penthouse Suite (which is seconded only by the Penthouse Suite at Faena Miami Beach in the contest to be the largest suite in the US), as configured, the Five Bedroom Terrace Suite offers sleep space for 10 guests. Considering its enviable location in the center of New York City, this extensive amount of room alone easily warrants the price.

Interior design is also a major contributing factor to the cost, with every corner of the Five Bedroom Terrace Suite finished to an immaculate standard. The cool, neutral décor accented with vibrant flashes of red lends itself to the feeling of a chic residential apartment, rather than a hotel suite.

But of course, space and design are not the only selling points of the most expensive hotel suite in the US; guests are also paying for the impeccable level of service that comes as standard at The Mark. From private in-room fine dining experiences by Jean-Georges through to exclusive access to personal shoppers at Bergdorf Goodman, you’d be hard-pressed to find a hotel experience as luxurious as that at The Mark.

2. Grand Penthouse Two Bedroom Terrace Suite, The Plaza Hotel – $14.28 per sq ft

Spread across 2,100 sq ft of The Plaza Hotel’s 20th floor, the Grand Penthouse Two Bedroom Terrace Suite is the second most expensive hotel suite in the US at $30,000 per night – working out at $14.28 per sq ft.

When it comes to comparing the top suites across the world, two bedrooms is on the smaller side. However, what The Plaza Hotel’s Grand Penthouse Suite lacks in space, it certainly makes up for in design. Paying homage to the hotel’s unique history as well as emulating the classic sophistication of the Upper East Side, the suite is lavish in its interior décor. The living area is rich with sumptuous fabrics and furnishings, with tastefully contrasting modern art lining the walls.

However, although gold gild and marble details are featured throughout, it is the suite’s bathroom where the attention to detail truly shines through. Here, intricate mosaics cover the floor and walls, with the addition of 24k gold plated fixtures creating the ultimate level of luxury.

To fully absorb the unrivaled atmosphere of New York without needing to leave their rooms, guests can head to the master bedroom’s adjoining rooftop that offers incredible views across the famous city skyline.

3. Royal Suite, Park Hyatt New York – $13.04 per sq ft

Just steps away from some of the city’s main attractions, Park Hyatt sits on prime New York real estate, and at $30,000 per night for 2,300 sq ft, it is the excellent location that has helped secure the Royal Suite’s status as the third most expensive in the US at $13.04 per sq ft.

Every detail has been carefully thought out to ensure the ultimate luxury New York experience. For example, when enjoying the spa’s pool, guests are treated to a carefully curated playlist from the neighboring Carnegie Hall that plays underwater.

In the suite itself, floor-to-ceiling windows showcase uninterrupted views across Central Park, with a welcoming light and airy atmosphere felt throughout the rooms. Although the Royal Suite only has one bedroom, the space available is maximized to its full potential, with a full kitchen, spacious bathroom and personal bar all included.

The Ty Warner Penthouse Suite at Four Seasons Hotel New York has become synonymous with opulent glamour and luxury – and at $50,000 per night for 4,300 sq ft – $11.62 per sq ft – the price clearly reflects the reputation.

Situated way up high on the hotel’s 52nd floor, the penthouse suite was born of a design collaboration between IM Pei, Peter Marino and hotel owner Ty Warner, resulting in a space that offers zero compromises in terms of design. From the rare Chinese onyx bathtub through to the 22k gold threads woven into the canopy bed, each corner of this spectacular suite reveals a new fantastical detail.

The substantial price tag for the Ty Warner Penthouse Suite is also in part thanks to the levels of service each guest will experience. This includes daily use of a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce and access to a dedicated guest relations manager.

5. The Empathy Suite, Palms Casino Resort – $11.11 per sq ft

Despite topping the list of the most expensive hotel suites in the US per night at $100,000 with a minimum stay of two nights, when measuring  cost per sq ft ($11.11) the Empathy Suite at Palms Casino Resort just squeezes in fifth place. Although the suite is still clearly reserved for only the wealthiest of travelers, our data shows that your money stretches further in Las Vegas – especially compared to New York City.

Designed in partnership with Damien Hirst, the Empathy Suite is a cross between an extravagant modern art gallery and an adults’ playground. The British artist’s most celebrated pieces are on show in the outlandish two-story suite – including the infamous Winner/Loser (2018), featuring two great white sharks encased in a sea of formaldehyde. The focus on design is felt throughout the 9,000-sq-ft suite, with playful yet stylish contemporary furniture and décor in each room.

With a salt-therapy room, massage space and multiple lounges primed for entertaining, the Empathy Suite is designed to be as exciting as the city in which it lives. The fun continues outside where guests can enjoy their own private pool, cantilevered over the sights of Las Vegas.
