If you’ve driven along South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach in recent weeks, you may have noticed an abundance of construction and a lack of patrons at the Norton Museum of Art. In fact, it has been closed since May 30 in preparation for its $100-million facelift. Although it is still undergoing renovations, the Norton reopens July 5 and is offering free admission and parking shuttle service through December 2018, when the expansion project is scheduled for completion.
During this time, visitors will enter the museum through the original 1941 entrance on the building’s east side. Special exhibitions and permanent collections will be housed in the East Wing, and museumgoers can continue to take part in activities like Family Studio on Saturdays and Art After Dark on Thursdays.
Art After Dark returns on July 7 with an All American–themed shindig that will include music by Fiesta Bobs and a screening of the documentary Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater: Beyond the Steps.
Revisit the Norton on July 14 for a frankly French celebration of Bastille Day. This annual event will boast French language lessons courtesy of the Multilingual Language and Cultural Society, caricature art by Dino DiArtist, and music from the French Horn Collective.
