From Kahiin To Hoga to Porus, Gurpreet Singh has made the transition with his sheer hard work and passion. Excerpts from the interview…
You became an overnight sensation as ‘Sujal’ in ‘Kahiin To Hoga’ after replacing Rajeev Khandelwal. How did the show contribute to your career?
When I signed Ekta Kapoor’s Kahiin To Hoga as Sujal Garewal I was not cognizant that this going to transmute my life 360 degrees. I not only learned a lot from that show but additionally shot to fame with that show. You can verbalize it as my milestone in the industry. I will be always grateful to Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Telefilms for giving me that role of Sujal Garewal/Tushar. The character was a rage.
How difficult is it to be a part of a historical show like Porus?
I would say it was magically satisfying. I had to learn many art forms like sword fighting, scuba diving, and horse riding. I had to work on my physique too. I relished it a lot. I was genuinely scared of water but I surmounted my fear when I jumped into the middle of the sea during the competition sequence. To be frank, I am authentically impressed with Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s adoption and originality. He is so talented and took the risk of making this authentic show. I very mystically enchanted that I become a part of his venture. After optically discerning the outcome I authentically forgot all the pain and difficulties that I had gone through during the shoot.
TV actors often fall prey to oblivion, because of the game of success and failure. Express your views | TMM
Somehow that’s the truth of this industry. Nowadays social media is helping us to stay in circulation to an extent. TV folks are remembered more for their characters. The number of actors is increasing every day. It is important to keep yourself grounded.
Will you ever do bold scenes on screen?
If it is logical, decent and compulsory for the story I don’t mind enacting it. As an actor, I am always open to experimentation.
Do you think six-pack abs is a compulsion for TV actors?
Good looks are important, but the talent is inevitable. In the long run, talent works for you, whereas the toned body is just an advantage.
In the entertainment industry, relationships don’t work out in many cases. What is your viewpoint about the saying that, ‘Actors are the narcissist’?
It’s unfair to categorize all the actors as the narcissist. Yes, I agree that many people want success and are ready to pay for it. I know many of them who have gone out of the way to help others.
Have you ever fall prey to casting couch in the industry?
Touchwood no! If it ever happens, I know how to say no. It’s all about how you handle the situation.
Gurpreet Singh, What is your viewpoint about the shelf life of TV actors?
I think if your character is a hit, people recognize you even after the show go off-air. The things have changed; now audience connects with you beyond television on social media.
Has a male actor ever made a pass at you?
Oh! I haven’t faced a situation like this. If it ever happens, I will avoid it politely.
Will you ever create controversies to get an entry in Bigg Boss?
I don’t believe in controversies. I think fame comes with hard work. Though, I would love to do Bigg boss to have an experience.
