January, the time where it gets harder to get out of bed, and waking up to pitch black dark. Getting over Xmas celebrations, vouching to go on a diet, have you heard of the caveman diet? Before our ancestors time, and humans began to farm and make process food. Having no dairy, sugar, wheat, yeast and gluten-free, and eating fresh vegetables, nuts and seeds, that’s the Paleo diet for you. You’re probably thinking what does that leave you to eat, Pete Evan’s book gives you the answers.
I myself have been trying to eat cleaner when I can, having almond milk, eating more vegetables and cooking healthier foods.
Pete Evans, TV presenter, author, and chef is already a huge success in his native country Australia. His books have hit number one in Australia in the food and lifestyle charts, and Paleo Every Day is 2015 latest release. Invited to his book release I got to sit, dine and chat to Pete his books and paleo diet. Eating out at London’s first paleo restaurant Pure Taste situated in Westbourne Grove. The website gives great detail on specialist diets http://puretasterestaurant.com/specialist-diets/.
To start, we had a basket full of different breads, served with a delicious creamy avocado butter, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Mains I choose a guinea fowl, drier than chicken with a subtle game flavour, the dish included sweet juicy prunes, bubbling looking cavolo nero, bread sauce and something that resembled a ferrero rocher.
Sweet potato laksa, pictured but didn’t get to taste looked incredible and so did the beef short ribs.
For desserts I went for a pure taste banoffee, it’s more of a deconstructed version, and filled me up more than my mains. A half grilled banana, hazelnut ice cream and a chunky biscuit.
Dining at a paleo restaurant was an interesting experience; I did find I wasn’t full from my mains and needed that dessert to sustain my hunger. Talking to the staff about how the chocolate orange ganache is made, was fascinating, using avocado and all garnishes are edible. Pure Taste is a feel good restaurant, and the wines are even organic.
