Have you ever been to Ireland? As you know I am a huge lover of rough natures and after exploring Scotland last year, Ireland was next on my bucket list. Even though the island is rather small, there’s so much to see! I will definitely have to come back for a longer road trip, but this time I introduce you to: the North of Ireland & Dublin!
The Countryside
The best trips to Ireland take you out of Dublin. Not that it isn’t a wonderful city — it’s certainly worth a few days and we will talk about it later — but at least for me, Ireland is all about the green and breathtaking landscapes, rough coastlines, charming little villages and the pub life. Get yourself a rental car and the adventure starts!
PINK Stay
On my trip to the country side, I wanted to be as close to the Irish nature as possible and I found the most unique place to do so at Finn Lough! At the resort awaits one of the world’s best glamping experiences in the heart of Fermanagh’s lakelands with the unique Forest Domes featuring 180° transparent walls allowing you to truly immerse yourself within the beauty and tranquility of nature. Watch the stars from your cozy canopy bed and let the sunrise slowly wake you up in the morning – the perfect romantic break in Northern Ireland.
If you had enough of the bubble life, head over to the main resort. The best Irish breakfast, a super stylish bar with open fire, a cozy private cinema and so much more awaits! If you want to be active, you can rent a canoe and explore the lake and afterwards enjoy the Element Forest Spa Trail for pure relaxation. My tip: choose the bubble for one night and then move into one of Finn Lough’s luxury suites – the best of both worlds!
PINK Sights
Heading from Finn Lough to the west coast of Ireland, you will find the most beautiful spots along the Wild Atlantic Way, which is one of the longest defined and most spectacular coastal routes in the world.
Next time I will explore the whole route, but you can also enjoy some highlight spots on a scenic route back to Dublin:
Silver Strand
This beautiful beach gives you the feeling of being at the end of the world. On the way to Silver Strand, the Wild Atlantic Way bends through remote and quiet areas – watch out, sheeps are crossing and are up to scratch their back on your car The beach is surrounded by a stunning landscape with endless sandy dunes and rough cliffs. And according to a resident, there is a little micro climate down below in summer so you can even go swimming in the Atlantic ocean!
Mullaghmore Head
After passing the town of Mullaghmore, a holiday destination with a beautiful sandy beach and a pier, where boats leave for Inishmurray Island, you will find yourself immediately within the most picturesque scenery: Huge waves roll ashore the rough coastline, and a magnificent view on Classiebawn Castle in front of Ben Bulben, Irland’s famous table mountain. Btw one of the legends surrounding Ben Bulben is that this is the only place in Ireland where fairies, also known as ‘gentry’, are visible to mortals – give it a try
Dublin
Usually, our city guides consists of PINK Stay, PINK Sights and PINK Food. But, this time, I will only talk about places to eat and drink as Dublin is the city of pubs, fantastic food spots and Guiness, of course!
Beef and Lobster
You know I am a brunch lover. Ok a brunch connaisseur. And this definitely was one of my favorite brunches of all times! In the heart of the Temple Bar district in Dublin, the Beef and Lobster offers from Thursday to Sunday a Bottomless Cocktail Brunch – and yes, this means you get as many Mimosas or Bellinis as you can drink. But the food is even more fab – as you can imagine it’s all about meat and seafood and every single dish was simply fantastic. I highly recommend: Hot ‘n’ spicy duck wings with cheese dip (excuse me, duck, not chicken!), fried buttermilk chicken on belgian waffles (wanted to try this for ages and I was not disappointed) and – of course – the black angus fillet steak with half a lobster. Super yumm!
Merchant’s Arch
Probably the prettiest pub of Dublin. Come in for a pint of Guiness but make sure to check out the hidden corners and lovely architecture! Tip: there is a bubble waffle store right around the corner for the sweet tooths
Temple Bar
You did not visit Dublin if you didn’t made it to THE Temple Bar – I mean, the whole district is named after this bar. Watch out, it get’s packed, so you better be early! You can even print your own face on your Guiness here and they do also produce their own whiskey.
But for now, you better put Ireland on top of your bucket list for stunning nature, the cutest people and you can even get super cheap flights there! Hope to see you soon!
Slán,
Sarah
