The beauty world has officially gone tech, with revolutionary grooming tools and facial recognition becoming ubiquitous features of the industry. Brands — both legacy and new-age — have quickly cottoned on to the trend. This includes SK-II; the revered Japanese beauty brand is making its presence known on the Orchard Road strip with its Future X Smart Store: A pop-up that combines skincare with technology and the Instagram experience.

It begins with “Art of You”: A large scale wall that reads facial expressions, as well as head, eye and mouth expressions that features different colour scheme. Eye blinks trigger energy lines that pass across the screen, translating into personalised backdrops.
The customised skincare experience continues with the brand’s iconic Magic Ring Skin analysis. Here’s how it works: You’ll sit comfortably in your own booth. A single tap of the Smart bracelet reveals a thorough assessment of your skin condition on an interactive wall. These results will steer you in the right direction when it comes to shopping for the best products for your skin.
Unlike your average beauty pop-up, this one’s a serious contender as it combines Artificial Intelligence technology with the brand’s Skin Science and diagnostics innovation. The SK-II Future X Smart Store is now open until 31 January 2019 outside Mandarin Gallery.
