Luxury Maldives resort, Jumeirah Vittaveli, is celebrating the second anniversary of its Swarna restaurant with a 15 course Indian tasting menu. Named ‘Gold at Swarna’, the impressive meal comes in at a record breaking $2,000 a head. Playing on the restaurants name (which translates to ‘gold’ in Sanskrit), the menu features a wide array of edible gold, the running theme throughout each dish.
Not set on making the world’s most expensive Indian menu, guests dining at Swarna will also be collected from their villa by a darban (a gold buggy with royal escort) where they will be taken to the luxurious cabana with the chance to change into traditional Indian attire. Some of the dishes include – blood orange soup with gold coated Himalayan pink salt and rose gold coated lamb patty served over bread from the inverted grill touched with gold.
Chef de Cuisine, Charat Kapoor, explains that the restaurant takes pride in sourcing ingredients on trips to India and only uses spices available in the country. “Authenticity is key,” says Kapoor. ”You can’t get truly Indian flavours if you use international ingredients.”
“Swarna continues to amaze our guests in terms of the ambiance and the progressive approach to food and beverage experiences. The new menu ‘Gold at Swarna’ is a celebration of its continued success and takes the restaurant to another level,” says General Manager Amit Majumder.
