2021 has undoubtedly been the year of the loafer. Of course, for many men around the world, every year is the year of the loafer, but what we mean is that 2021 is the year that the streetwear set unlocked its eyes from the latest raffle and looked for something a touch more refined.
With labels like Aimé Leon Dore reviving the previously half-dormant world of prep, leather loafers began to pick up steam. Combine that with a growing sense of disillusionment in sneaker communities around the difficulty to cop even the most basic releases and the loafer became the logical next step for many of us.
Heavy endorsements from names like Tyler, the Creator — not to mention a century or so of stylish gents before him — also helped reposition the loafer as a versatile, unpretentious option. But, for those escaping sneakers because of the hefty price tags, loafers don’t feel like a wonderful trade-off. A pair of high-quality leather loafers will still set your back a couple of hundred dollars. Luckily, Urban Outfitters has you covered.
While browsing the retailer’s pages recently, we stumbled across a pair of color-blocked loafers with a digit seemingly missing from the beginning of the price tag. A leather upper combines with a rubber sole for a comfy yet classic ride in a pair of retro-brimming loafers. Easy to style with shorts and a Cuban collar shirt during summer, or a pair of heavy woolen trousers or jeans in the winter, this may well be our rotation’s next staple member.
