This 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO Sells for a whopping $80 million

With prices sitting around $50 million right now, the Ferrari 250 GTO is the most expensive and desirable car of all time. Just 39 GTOs were produced, and prices continue to skyrocket for these beautiful pieces of Italian automotive racing history.

Just last week, the 250 GTO Series 1 chassis number 4153 GT “Christian Glaesel” was sold privately to WeatherTech David MacNeil for more than 79 million Swiss francs (SGD$107 million).

When it comes to rarest of the rare classic cars that are considered as the most desirable on every car collector’s list, the name that comes on top is the Ferrari 250 GTO.

The car’s only competition on the market right now is itself, as proven by its intensive track record in auctions. In 2013, a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO created history with a $52 million deal, a record that has been smashed by another 250 GT five years later in a private deal with a whopping $80 million – the highest price ever paid for a car.

The record breaking 250 GTO that MacNeil bought won the 1964 famed Tour de France race and came in fourth at Le Mans. The uber-rare classic wears a silver and yellow paint job. According to sources, the car has never been crashed despite a winning record on the track, unlike many other GTOs. MacNeil is an avid Ferrari collector and has owned and raced many rare classic Ferraris, including several 250s. It is speculated that this 250 GTO, too, will get the same treatment and parade in vintage rallies and races.
