Where on earth did this Royal Oak come from? The answer is Japan, but the international watch community received a shock courtesy of Audemars Piguet when a limited-edition titanium salmon dial Perpetual Calendar ref. 26615TI.OO.1220TI.01 appeared online, seemingly from nowhere, earlier this week.
As Hodinkee first reported, only 150 versions of the watch were available in Japan, with 100 of them going on sale through legendary Japanese boutique Yoshida and the rest distributed to dealers throughout the country. In a newsletter, AP then revealed that a further 150 units would be rolled out globally.
The piece itself is gorgeous, sporting a titanium case with a diameter of 41 millimeters and a height of 9.5 millimeters and a much sought-after salmon “Grande Tapisserie” motif dial that is sure to be the envy of collectors and enthusiasts everywhere. Its heart is the caliber 5134, powering a perpetual calendar that shows the week, day of the week, date, astronomical moon, month, leap year, hours, and minutes. It has a power reserve of 40 hours and is built of 374 individual parts and 38 jewels.
