We’re getting in the GORE-TEX spirit. From Stüssy to Goldwin to Reebok, there are plenty of weatherproofed pieces to go ’round, and nonnative is keeping the party going, infusing its latest round of collaborative Gramicci trousers with that omnipresent technical membrane.
nonnative and Gramicci have had quite a year already: the duo’s easy pants, corduroy shorts, and Coolmax climbing trews have all launched in Japan within the past few months, demarcating a few more banger nonnative collections all the while.
The rest of nonnative’s 39th collection is hitting stockists — like its international-shipping-friendly COVERCHORD outpost — now, including a range of GORE-TEX outerwear and accessories.
These Gramicci pantaloons are the technical capsule’s crown jewel, an easy set of grey, pale green, or navy bottoms that perfectly match the layering pieces, down to the GORE-TEX INFINIUM lining (the first Gramicci GORE-TEX pants!).
If you’re unfamiliar with Gramicci’s oeuvre, there’s no better time to get acquainted. The American outdoor brand, now overseen by Japanese management, has been dropping fire collaborations aplenty (ahem) over the past couple years.
This builds on the growth it’s demonstrated in Japan since 2010 or so, when it began dishing out joint efforts with everyone from niche brands to mall brands.
Key factors for this collab include an ultratough 15-denier ripstop cut from a nylon/poly blend, Gramicci’s signature built-in belt, and a loose, tapered cut. As usual Gramicci’s gusseted crotch allows for ease of movement, bolstering the elasticity baked into its high-spec fabrication. And, yes, because it’s lined with GORE-TEX, each pant is waterproof and windproof, but breathable enough to keep from suffocating the wearer. They do it all!
