It was a ladies catch up time with my fellow food bloggers, the chosen location Tonkotsu soho. Why not, it’s the best solution to be devouring and slurping in style over a bowl of ramen noodles on a cold winter night.
With no queues, I walked straight in to our table. We started the night with starters, and I had trouble over picking salt and pepper squid or crab korokke.
I snag the crab korokke in the end, imagine Spanish croquettes but a Japanese version. Homemade tartar serves as the base for the crispy coated round balls, a delicious mushy inside of minced crab meat. The spritz of lemon juice goes well with seafood.
Going for a different dish this time round, Tokyo Ramen was very impressive. A deep soy based soup of a reddish-brown hue. Loaded with medium thick bouncy noodles, topped with thick slices of soy marinated pork belly, half a soft-boiled egg and menma. If you like Chinese style char sui you will love this bowl of ramen. By the fourth slice of pork belly, I was getting full, and have to confess I prefer the Tokyo Ramen over the Tonkotsu.
