Village People Hawker Hall
When you have an ex longrain chef Arté Assavakavinvong and his team occupying the first level of upbeat area Fitzroy the venue 127 Brunswick street has two venues under one roof. In a hawker market style hall and South-Eastern flavours are thrown into the mix. The menu consists of a fusion of Laotian, Cambodian, Indian, Malay, Burmese and Thai flavours and delicious cocktails to boot. Village People Hawker becomes a winner.
Party sharers
Arriving with a long stretch of dark wooden tables for our big party. The atmosphere matches the earthy brown tones. The outdoor terrace can be enjoyed by punters with benches to sit in the outdoors. The floor also features DJ booths for late nights and an open kitchen to view cooks at work.
Miang (starters) We had glazed meat on sliced pineapples. One of my all-time favourites a wok fried Pad Thai delivered the sensory palate. Spicy, warm, sour and zesty piled into one plate.
Mains
Other dishes we had from Village People Hawker Hall, I missed out on taking photos. The hearty curries are a worthy mention. Vibrant colours sweet and hot spicy flavours, leaves you wanting more and more. Plenty of heat to warm your insides and make you feel good.
This pandan dessert made the night. Not on the current website menu, a popular flavour known to most Asians. Part sticky rice and pandan ice cream and coconut mousse, nuts, goji berries scattered around and a burst of lychee flavoured jelly cubes. A sensational dessert that pleases.
The only downsize is plate portions are on the small size for the $20-30 for mains and can be quite pricey to be full.
