VistaJet Pioneers Greener Future for Private Aviation

While private aviation is not typically considered a green sector, the industry as a whole is taking responsibility for its contributions to climate change. As part of its commitment to meaningfully reducing its carbon footprint and giving the climate crisis the attention it deserves, VistaJet has announced a partnership with SkyNRG – the global leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

When used in place of standard jet fuel, SAF can reduce carbon emissions by 85% making it the most sustainable fuel solution to de-carbonizing flights. Although sustainable biojet fuel was introduced a decade ago, it currently only accounts for 0.1% of total aviation fuel consumption. The market-leading partnership between VistaJet and SkyNRG will secure fast and easy access to SAF for all VistaJet customers, supporting the immediate adoption of this vital energy solution.

VistaJet has also announced the progress made in the Sustainability in Aviation pledge, which launched January 2020. The success of the sustainability plan has seen 80% of members opt in to the Carbon Offset Program. By opting in to this program, members are committing to compensating for the carbon emissions produced through flying by investing in certified carbon credits around the world.

This meaningful commitment has enabled VistaJet to successfully offset 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions, with a target of over 195,000 tons by the end of the year. The current progress in offsetting is equivalent to over 21,600 passenger vehicles driven in one year, or charging 12.7 billion smartphones.

The introduction of a new fleet of technologically advanced aircrafts is also contributing to VistaJet’s reduced environmental impact. The Global 7500 fleet was manufactured with the environment in mind, with high-speed transonic wings cutting down on drag, which will work to further reduce fuel emissions. The new aircrafts also include GE Passport engines that cut noise pollution, and have a fuel consumption of just 2.5 liters per functional unit.

VistaJet is just one of a significant number of industry leaders who have also signed on to partnerships that secure a more sustainable future for aviation. Other notable partnerships include Shell Aviation x Neste, who have entered into a sustainable fuel supply agreement, and NetJets, Signature Flight Support and Neste, who joined together to advance towards the goal of net-zero-carbon emissions in business and general aviation.

VistaJet’s chairman and founder, Thomas Flohr, has commented on the company’s move into more sustainable operations: “VistaJet is committed to making aviation better. Today, this means changing the way we operate, to benefit not only our customers, but the whole global community.

“In this spirit, I hope our private aviation partners and peers will do the same, working collaboratively to bring change faster, as this is the only way for the fragmented industry to take full responsibility for the long-term health of the planet. […] We are positive about the future, and we believe together we can transform business aviation for the long-term good.”
