Iconic British designer Vivienne Westwood will soon follow in the footsteps of Gucci, Vetements, Rag & Bone and Public School by combining both her women’s and men’s collections under the Vivienne Westwood mainline label come fall 2017.
Westwood – known for her unorthodox gender-bending approach to fashion – will merge the “Red Label” womenswear collection and the “Man Label” menswear line in a bid to streamline and clarify its branding in the industry. She will also not stage a show for her Spring 2017 women’s collection in September, and will instead showcase it to press and buyers via public appointments and lookbooks. “Our whole structure will be directed by quality. Reduce our company in size, reduce it to its essentials. Buy less, choose well, make it last,” Westwood said in a release.
This isn’t Westwood’s first attempt at refining her company’s structure. Her main unisex runway collection was renamed “Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood” from the less inspiring “Gold Label”, in recognition of the partnership between herself and longtime design collaborator and husband.
