You don’t usually combine the two words cheap and good together, but that’s what I can do with this hidden treasure in Shepard’s Bush. Weizi Prawn Hot Pot, was a former Italian restaurant where it never had anyone going. Passing by my lunch hours it was just empty. It has now revamped to a Chinese hot pot specialist. Although I never been there for hot pot, I can reassure you it’s really tasty.
I usually go in for the lunch specials on the menu for a bargain of £5.50, you get a bowl of homemade soup and a main. The lunch specials are cash only, just remember that. I’ve been here on many occasions and the homemade soup is always different. I had lovely egg and sweetcorn soup, pork and vegetable soup, and others. Weizi Prawn Hot Pot consistently had the same standard of cooking on every occasion I visited. The place was filled with a lot of Chinese people and locals which always show a good sign.
Kung po pork, hit the spot with it’s sweet and sour chilli sauce, the pork is coated in a lovely crunchy batter. The other vegetable components were cooked crunchy without being soggy. Sauce based mains comes with steamed rice, with an additional 50p for fried rice or noodles. Often some Chinese places, the food is over-fried and too greasy. Weizi Prawn Hot Pot reminds me of my parents cooking, it has that homemade full of love feel and you see why at £5.50 I keep on going back during lunch hours.
