Welcome to Sagittarius Season 2021: Everything You Need to Know

sagittarius

Every year, from approximately November 22 to December 21, the sun moves through the ninth sign of the zodiac, Sagittarius, the mutable fire sign. Ruled by fortunate Jupiter, which brings a magnifying effect to everything it touches, Sagittarians are big, life-loving personalities who adore globe-trotting, being at the heart of any party, and exploring as much as life has to offer. They’re also born philosophers who are endlessly passionate about their beliefs and have a tendency to hop on a soapbox frequently in order to share their worldview, often in a way that pulls no punches.

For those reasons, it’s no wonder that Sag season is filled with celebrations, travel to be with loved ones, lots of big, showy, glowy decorations, and revelling in the moment with the people you love. Throughout the Archer’s season, no matter what sign you were born under, you could be feeling more outgoing, direct, jovial, and passionate. This is an astrological moment to pinpoint your desires and make them real — no apologies allowed.

But while the sun moves through the unfiltered, adventurous, free-spirited, life-loving fire sign annually, the moon and planets move at different paces and patterns in our solar system, so you can expect a unique experience during every sign’s season. Here’s a glimpse at Sagittarius season 2021.

Steel yourself for major change

If it feels like your horoscope and every new or full moon report is warning about big change this year, that’s because the main headline of 2021’s astrology has involved a square between taskmaster Saturn, the planet of restriction and boundaries, in Aquarius and revolutionary Uranus, the planet of rebellion and sudden shake-ups, in Taurus. This aspect has been exact twice so far — on February 17 and June 14 — and on December 24, it’ll happen for the third and last time this year. Along the way, other monthly aspects, including lunar events, have set off the ongoing square aspect, serving to underline that ongoing theme of the old guard versus the new and the push-pull between the status quo and electrifying shifts.

And although it’s not interacting strongly with Saturn and Uranus, the astrology of Sagittarius season is all about letting go of what’s no longer working for you and claiming your blank canvas and new reality. A key moment in which this couldn’t be more apparent will be the solar eclipse and new moon on December 3-4 (depending on your time zone) in Sagittarius. Because the moon will be sitting closely to Mercury, speaking your truth will be integral to kicking off a stunning new chapter. (Remember: Unlike regular new moons, eclipses don’t necessitate much manifesting or conscious “working with” the energy. Your job is mostly to sit back and see what shake-ups they’re intent on delivering.)

The full moon in Gemini, on December 18, will have a similar communicative feeling, being that it’s ruled by messenger Mercury. And relationships could be the main focus, because relationship-ruling Venus will be moving toward a conjunction with transformative Pluto in Capricorn, cranking up the intensity of our bonds — and potentially sexual experiences. Just watch out for infatuation and possessiveness.

Mouthiness reigns supreme

Not only is the sun travelling through Sagittarius, but so is Mercury, the planet of communication, from November 24 to December 13. Then, from December 13 to January 24, 2022, action-oriented Mars will occupy the fire sign as well.

Mercury’s placement colours how we think and express ourselves verbally and socially, and while in fiery, opinionated, direct, and unfiltered Sag, you can expect both big displays of affection and plenty of soapbox moments. Sag values knowledge and truth above all and isn’t the biggest fan of staying in a prescribed lane, and sometimes, on a mission to do that, they mouth off in a to-the-point way that could be perceived as brave — or insensitive.

And Mars’ placement affects how we take action (including in the bedroom) and express our anger. So with the assertive planet moving through the sign of the Archer, you might be inspired to act a bit bolder in your sex life and in terms of moving the ball forward on your goals. But you might also be tempted to be reckless and go overboard, given Jupiter’s influence.

Neptune brings plenty of opportunities for escapism

After being retrograde since June 25, Neptune, the planet of spirituality and mysticism, will move forward on December 1 in mutable water sign Pisces. When Neptune is direct, it clouds rational thought, so after several months of reality checks, you can put your rose-coloured glasses back on — for better or worse. And because we’ll have a bevvy of planets in Sag, which squares Pisces, communication and goal-getting could get confusing and challenging on occasion. For instance, on December 7, Mercury squares Neptune, clouding our thinking and communication, and on December 12, the sun squares it, which can make you feel sleepy and unmotivated.

You’ll start to take a couple of steps backwards in relationships, money, and beauty — but it’s for the greater good

At the tail end of the Sagittarius season, Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and money, kicks off its just over a month-long retrograde in Capricorn, which lasts from December 19 to January 29, 2022. In general, Venus retrogrades slow or fully stall anything that the planet of romance oversees, encouraging you to tend to lose ends in your relationships (of all kinds — not just love) and creative projects and to reflect on your values.

The good news is that with the romance planet moving backwards through the industrious cardinal earth sign, you might be more up for doing the work associated with this retrograde. For example, you might be inspired to pour more energy into professional goals, which boosts your self-worth. Or you could be feeling gung-ho about trying couples’ therapy to tackle ongoing issues simmering beneath the surface in a partnership.

Regardless of what this Venus retrograde brings, the Goat will stop at nothing to get to the top of its chosen mountain, so you can rest assured that even if your progress is slow, it’ll all be worth it in the end.
