Salvatore Ferragamo brings to the world Lo Splendore Della Vita or The Splendor of Life, its latest concept for Spring/ Summer 2016. Unveiled by the brand’s creative director, Massimilano Giornetti, the print and digital campaigns were inspired by Salvatore Ferragamo’s lifelong belief of limitless beauty or pursuit of perfection.
With the print campaign shot by Craig McDean and a digital film directed by Theo Stanley, the quest of pleasure and delight is depicted effortlessly. The collections themselves, both men’s and women’s, highlight the expertise and craftsmanship that are associated with the Italian Maison and focus heavily on the theme of balancing numerous personalities.
For women, the clothes are light and playful in the form of long, double cotton cloaks, strapless dresses, high frills, rounded jackets, ample sleeves and ribbons that lace-up the back. The accessories are the perfect counterpoint to the delicate designs with clean lines and classic shapes.
Large pearl earrings and necklaces play a role alongside closed-toe sandals, low metal heels and shoulder and bucket bags to complete the women’s collection. Steering away from the monochromatic, Ferragamo uses various colors — think rust, blue, vermillion, pink and green — making it feminine yet fun.
Following along in a similar color scheme, is the men’s collection. With black, brown, khaki, ochre and beige mellowing the pop of color, the designs are eclectic and created with precision and carefully calculated misalignment. For example, the dry wool suits feature off-color pinstripes that are brought out by the bold stitching. On the compact sweaters, the broken stripes of leather inserts and raffia embroidery go against the geometric lines.
Cactuses and monkeys make an appearance in both the clothes and accessories, offsetting any serious undertones that might be present. From sandals and gym lace-ups with high rubber soles and fringed toecaps to straw bags, the balance of various elements is clear and well executed.
