A year spent confined in our homes gave us a lot of time to think. We considered the true importance of socializing — no man is an island and all of that — but one thought overwhelmed everything else: why are my walls so empty? The aesthetic of your home is important, with the power to inform your mood and inspire you. So why haven’t you filled your walls with art yet? Luckily, StockX has got you covered with a newly opened art category. This is a one-stop shop for rare and exclusive art prints to give your walls that needed boost. To celebrate the new category, we’ve got our eyes on a couple of fire Shepard Fairey prints that just landed.
Who is Shepard Fairey?
Born in 1970, Fairey is an American artist that found his roots in the world of skateboarding. If his work looks familiar, it’s probably because of that Obey tee you used to own. Fairey really made a name for himself after founding Obey in 2001, the brand which grew to be a full-blown phenomenon in the early 2010s.
Obey’s wild success is largely testament to Fairey’s artwork which usually formed a centerpiece to the streetwear staples. The pop art-leaning illustrations are instantly recognizable, and one of Fairey’s most popular works comes in the form of AR-15 Lily and AK-47 Lotus. The images are inspired by Vietnam war protesters, who would put flowers in the barrel of a gun as a form of protest during the war. This isn’t the first time Fairey has done this print, but the previous iteration includes more colors in the background. This print features the same gun and flower motif, but with a more muted color palette throughout.
In time with the StockX art prints category launching, Shepard Fairey’s AR-15 Lily and AK-47 Lotus are available now on the resale platform. Each print is a signed print of 450 total. If you’re looking for a way to bring quick personality to an empty wall, these iconic designs are it.
