Editor’s Notes: You’ve got your Alpha SV, Beta FL, your mid-layers, base-layers, maybe even a beanie or four, but let’s be honest – no true hiking ‘fit (or quick one down Tesco Gorpcore) is complete without a solid set of footwear.
If you really are about that beaten path lifestyle, you’ll be the first to admit no one is trying to roll an ankle out there.
I did Snowdon once, dreaded the ridge, yet despite not being a top-tier selection for ankle support, my Salomon XT-6 came in clutch. In retrospect, I’d have sought out something with better all-terrain performance.
Thanks to the enormous amount of attention that its outerwear gets, you’d be forgiven for not knowing that Arc’ also has a selection of footwear options available. The latest of which is the Aerios AR Mid GTX.
Designed for, well, whatever life decides to throw at them, the Aerios AR Mid GTX promises comfort across a variety of terrain. When backpacking, comfort is, of course, key, but as is a streamlined, lightweight design and high-performance details – all of which these offer.
As you’ve probably guessed from the name, these kicks come equipped with a GORE-TEX membrane to keep your toes dry, while Ultralon foam keeps things cushty in the collar and tongue.
To stop your falling off any trails you may journey, a rugged Vibram XS Trek outsole boasts enhanced grip, while an injected EVA midsole plus a TPU midfoot adds a mix of shock absorption and torsional support.
