Paras TomarMeet Paras Tomar, an actor-cum-entrepreneur who is known for body and skincare brand Nuskhe by Paras and his signature line #BigPucchi. With 170k followers on Instagram and 3.3M followers on Tiktok, the new-age influencer has a unique style of presenting lifestyle facts and styles that are loved by people of all age groups. During the ongoing lockdown, Paras is spending time with his family in Kumharsain, Himachal Pradesh, and indulging in seasonal delights and homemade food. He recently took 30-day No Sugar Challenge to detox and shared his experience via an IGTV video that garnered more than 28k likes and 281 comments. In an e-mail interview with TMM, Paras talks about the challenge, diet trends, and how the core of a healthy lifestyle is deeply rooted in the past.

You had been on 30-day No Sugar Challenge. Tell us about the experience and what rules you followed?

For someone who is a hardcore chick-holic, this isn’t easy to do. I had to consistently remind myself of my goal. I’m used to being in shape, but the last two months have been somewhat busy with the launch of 30 new products in the Nuskhe By Paras range. I guess it kept me busy enough to skip the diets. The 30-day sugar challenge is something I recommend everyone to try at least once. For starters, it tells you how much will power you actually have. Rules are simple: No sugar! This also includes things like honey and stevia. The only sugar I probably consumed was from watermelons. Even high sugar fruits like mango, chiku, apples were off my list. Legit no sugar! It’s tough because sugar has a way of creeping into daily foods so you have to be very careful. But combined with fasts and workouts, it helped me shred 8 kilos.

Paras TomarIn the last one year, Intermittent Fasting has gained a lot of popularity. What’s your take on it?
Fasting is a healthy practice. There is a reason every religion promotes it. It’s a smart and natural way of cleansing the body and internal organs. It helps regulate insulin levels and most definitely helps you keep off excess weight. It’s also become popular because it’s an eating pattern that is relatively easy to accommodate in a daily setup. The fact that results begin to show in about a fortnight is encouraging for a lot of people.

Fasting is a part of Indian tradition and culture. How far fasting is effective in staying healthy and weight loss?

Our rishi munis ate ‘phal’ (fruits) a lot and mostly ate just once a day.  Breakfast is an American concept that came from a cereal company and the three meals a day is a British concept that came to control the breaks that workers would take to eat. Earlier, it was a common practice to eat one big meal. Ayurveda promotes fasting. Fasting is a really effective way to shed weight and the physiological benefits it has, is a huge bonus.

It is said that drinking abundant water delays aging and keeps your skin flawless. What’s the secret of your glowing skin?

The secret to glowing skin, #ParasKeNuskhe! Again, hydrating and over-hydrating are all marketing gimmicks that were started by brands when bottled water came into the market. Yes, an adequate amount of water is healthy, but we get that adequate amount from a healthy consumption of fruits and simply by quenching our thirst. A lot of the other stuff you read is usually the work of marketing geniuses!

The skincare series made me India’s first and only actor-influencer to launch a product line. Again, I’m not endorsing, we at the Nuskhe by Paras team, create these products. We forayed from skincare to health care with the launch of our multivitamins and pet care with the launch of Ayurvedic dog and cat grooming products. The process is to make videos using everyday items that are inexpensive and easily accessible.

Don’t graze, eat! Combine the act of eating with a workout and sensible nutrition regime and you’ll be fit. Health is a lifestyle. You don’t get fat or skinny in a day. Remember, your body is a result of the choices you make.

The healthier you eat, the more you glow. If you’re eating junk, it’s going to show on your skin and body. Smoking is a big no for your skin and your (or your man’s) sperm. Workout and always wear sunscreen when going, said Paras Tomar.
