There’s no denying that New Balance is having a moment right now. From dropping what we’re predicting to be the shorts of the summer, re-releasing its classic 550 model, and of course tapping Aimé Leon Dore‘s Teddy Santis as Creative Director, the brand has been attracting a lot of attention.
But in-between all of that hype, its general release drops manage to hit the same levels of classic sneaker perfection.
The latest sees the American footwear label add spring-ready colorways to a range of its most popular shoes, from contemporary takes on its archive to the latest models that have graced shelves.
We’ve been on the hunt to update our spring sneaker rotation with both all-white and colorful sneakers, and New Balance has brought us the best of both in this collection. Browse our favorites below.
Taken from the labels “higher learning pack”, deep red wine colored panels overlap each other on the upper of this 2002r. Combined with a slightly-yellowed midsole, these are a slice of sneaker heaven.
The New Balance 740 is arguably the brand’s most recognizable model, a classic suede and mesh sports shoe that has been in the label’s footwear arsenal since 1988. Take the classic elements everyone has come to know and love from that sneaker, combine it with a chunky midsole and suede panels that partially cover the New Balance “N” — and you have the M740.
For the spring/summer season, the sneaker has been given a “sea salt” colorway, combining white and beige hues along with contrasting black New Balance branding.
Two relatives in the same family, this latest drop includes the M990BS3 and M920GRY.
The M990, which made waves in the early 1980s when it became the first running shoe with a three-figure price tag, is the only black pair of sneakers featured in this light-colored spring/summer drop. Also in a monochrome colorway, the M920 combines grey hues with small hits of white details.
The New Balance 327 has remained one of our favorite sneakers from the label ever since that Casablanca collab in 2020. Its creator Charlotte Lee, a sneaker designer based in Manchester, UK, told us in an interview that the 70s design is, “inspired by the past, but in a completely different way than was done before.”
The way the shoe brings a new take on the label’s 70s archive is why we continue to get excited over updated colorways of the sneaker and this grey and navy blue pair is another winning iteration from the sportswear label.
Moving onto the 327’s predecessor, the New Balance UXC72 also shares elements inspired by 70s running models and was launched with a Casablanca collaboration. However, this model takes things to another level, with a more aggressive, race car-inspired design.
The sneaker is given two new colorways in this latest drop, both of which feature a distinctive gum sole that spills onto the upper.
