Zaha Hadid’s Futuristic Superyacht Revealed

th_65d1300db123ce22f6e2569fb36764f8_zha_bv_birdseyeview_128mLondon based architect Zaha Hadid is perhaps more familiar with conjuring up the latest landmark buildings. But the Dame’s latest project has seen a new asset added to her portfolio – a superyacht.

In celebration of Hadid’s work at London’s David Gill Gallery, the Pritzker Prize winning architect worked alongside Hamburg based ship builders Blohm + Voss, and together have released details of a new futuristic vessel.

The 128m Superyacht has been inspired by fluid dynamics and underwater ecosystems, while the exterior boasts am exoskeleton structure that is made up of interwoven support beams.

Curvaceous designs are an integral part of Hadid’s signature style. She said: “As a dynamic object that moves in dynamic environments, the design of a yacht must incorporate additional parameters beyond those for architecture – which all become much more extreme on water. Each yacht is an engineered platform that integrates specific hydrodynamic and structural demands together with the highest levels of comfort, spatial quality and safety.”

th_65d1300db123ce22f6e2569fb36764f8_zha_bv_twinviewDr. Herbert Aly, CEO and Managing Partner of Blohm + Voss said: “On an aesthetic level, a Superyacht is a great design task as everything is customized down to the last detail. A superyacht is by definition an exercise in total design, where every detail is looked at with attention and refinement. In the past, in the era of stream liners, there has been an attempt of utilizing ship building elements in architecture. Zaha Hadid and her team have taken this ethos and created a bold new vision and a new benchmark in the design of superyachts.”

The master Superyacht prototype will be used to inspire the design of The Unique Circle Yachts – a collection of five individual 90m yachts. These will incorporate design philosophies from the master stereotype but with modifications to ensure they meet the technical specifications to be approved for vessel crossing.

Blohm + Voss clients are able to view the designs although it is estimated that the construction of one of the yachts could take up to four years. Estimated prices for the yachts has not been released.
