Biking has never been so popular, whether you're a participant or watching as a spectator. Check our guide below to some of the epic two-wheel events taking place .
Simple Session
Simple Session moved back to its familiar home of the Saku Suurhall in Tallinn , and the world's best indoor BMX Park and Street contest takes place here again . The riders will have to wrap up warm as the event takes place in early in the year, in the depths of the frigid Estonian winter.
Cotton Walker mixing it up
Where: Tallinn, Estonia
Look out for: For the first time there'll be separate contests for Park and Street competitors, giving recognition to the top riders of both BMX disciplines
Yukon Arctic Ultra
Deepest winter in Canada brings out the most extraordinary humans, who willingly cycle long distances in the snow along dog sledding trails. The Yukon Arctic Ultra is one of the toughest and coldest bike races there is. Competitors can choose to race either 100 miles, 300 miles or 430 miles in temperatures that can drop down to -50C.
Where: Whitehorse, Canada
Look out for: The 430 mile race is a test of endurance over 13 days. With little support, the race becomes a test of survival and mental courage to get to the finish.
Crankworx Rotorua
The starting pistol for a season of racing and freeride really arrives with the southern hemisphere's very own Crankworx festival. There's an Enduro World Series round, a big name slopestyle comp and a range of gravity races to keep you entertained. Keen observers will be looking forward to seeing who's riding what after a busy transfer window.
Brandon Semenuk’s redeeming Cork 720
Where: New Zealand
Look out for: As we mentioned, this will be one of the first glimpses at what the UCI World Cup season will look like in terms riders on new teams and bikes. In slopestyle, Canadians Brett Rheeder and Brandon Semenuk look set to continue their great rivalry.
Cape Epic
Attracting professional and amateurs alike, the Cape Epic's burgeoning reputation has seen it attract some of the world's best names in cross-country mountain biking in recent years, and it's shown live on TV in a number of countries around the world.
The 700km MTB stage-race goes deep into South Africa's remote interior, and across constantly changing terrain. Riders compete in teams of two, with the team with the best time at the end of Stage 7 declared winners.
Where: South Africa
Look out for: Former Tour de France champion Cadel Evans will be getting back on his mountain bike alongside fellow former road professional George Hincapie to race this event. Evans began his career in cross-country MTB and is a former two-time overall XCO World Cup champion.
UCI MTB World Cup
The UCI MTB World Cup season gets underway in France with a downhill-only round in Lourdes in April, followed by a cross-country-only round in May in the Czech Republic. A crowd pleaser wherever it goes, the World Cup will travel to nine countries in total .

When: April 29 – 30
Look out for: Danny Hart. All eyes will be on the 'Redcar Rocket' to see if his form from the end of the 2016 World Cup season was a one-off or the start of something more beautiful. Don't forget, you can watch every round of the World Cup live on Red Bull TV.
Crankworx Innsbruck
The newest edition to the Crankworx roster of global mountain bike festivals heads to an area more commonly known for winter sport competitions. The usual combination of Downhill, Slopestyle, Dual Speed & Style, Whip Off and Pump Track MTB events will be on show in this celebration of mountain bike culture.
Where: Innsbruck, Austria
When: June 21 – 25
Look out for: As with most Crankworx events, the slopestyle contest will be the major draw for spectators and the world's best mountain bikers. A new venue brings new challenges on course design in what is expected to be a town-based location.
X Games
The Summer X Games moves to a new location for 2017, with the state-of-the-art new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis hosting most of the events alongside locations such as the Medtronic Plaza and Downtown East Commons. The X Games continues to be the premier outdoor BMX competition for Vert, Street and Park.
Daniel Dehrs
Where: Minneapolis, United States
When: July 13 – 16
Look out for: After a season out trying to make it in MTB Slopestyle , particpants will be fully focussed on all matters BMX and aiming to win his first X Games gold medal in the Park competition.
Trans-Siberian Extreme
This is without doubt the world's longest stage race. Starting in Moscow, the race travels across Russia to finish in Vladivostok 25 days later. That is one tough mental and physical challenge for the participants.
Passing over the plains at sunrise
Where: Russia
When: July 18 – August 11
Look out for: The demanding pace of these road racers as they cover huge distances each day. You'll be able live track each stage and follow the riders as they go across Russia.
Transcontinental Race No.5
This pan-European endurance road cycling race has grown in popularity since the first event in 2013, with over 300 entries now listed. Participants start in Geraardsbergen, Belgium and finish in Meteora, Greece, and they can choose any route they want but must pass four official checkpoints on the way. The fastest time to the finish wins, and all riders have to be self-supported so that means no help at all.
Where: Across Europe
When: July 28 – August
Look out for: The Transcontinental is all about cycling endurance, mental stamina, navigation and logistics. Riders will have to be prepared for a variety of different conditions and situations in each country.
Red Bull District Ride
District Ride makes a welcome reappearance to the schedules in 2017. The city-based slopestyle contest is a huge crowd pleaser, and like the previous two editions in 2011 and 2014 the action will take place in the historic German city of Nuremberg.

Look out for: World firsts.The Nuremberg courses have always offered massive airtime, and this plays into the hands of master trick machines Szymon Godziek and Nicholi Rogatkin. Both riders are always willing to push the boundaries of progression with big tricks. Watch it live on Red Bull TV.
UCI World Championships
Strap yourself in and get ready for one of the biggest races of the year, and the one they all want to win. Worlds is a race like no other; the World Cup is done and dusted and now one race run will decide the owner of the rainbow stripes. Expect thrills, spills and custom bikes aplenty.
Danny Hart
Where: Cairns, Australia
When: September 5 – 10
Look out for: The big story here will be if Aaron Gwin can finally win a medal at Worlds. Gwin is one of the biggest talents the sport has ever produced, but mechanical misery and bad luck have dogged him when it comes to the Worlds, and he's never even won a medal despite having scored four World Cup titles. No pressure!
Red Bull Hardline
Red Bull Hardline is now firmly established as one of the toughest downhill mountain bike races in the world, and an event that the top racers clamour to get an invite to. As ever, Dan Atherton will be aiming to push the boundaries of downhill racing in North Wales in the fourth edition of the event.
Bernard Kerr storms to the finish line
Where: Dyfi Valley, Wales
When: September (TBC)
Look out for: Dan's brother Gee Atherton has never won Hardline in the three years of its existence. Bad luck or injuries mean we haven't seen the best of him on the course, but the Brit will have a burning desire to top the podium at last .
Red Bull Rampage
The most iconic mountain bike event in the world had a reboot to take it back to its roots, but that didn't diminish the quality threshold. Rampage is still the ultimate test of a rider's skill and mettle on a mountain bike, whether they're a freerider, freeracer or a slopestyler.
Where: Virgin, Utah
When: October (TBC)
Look out for: A more intimate Rampage. There's less competitors, more practice and no power tools or man-made obstacles to muddy the Rampage waters. Hard work, sweat and tears will define the lines of the competitors as they make their way down from the top of the hill to the finish. Watch it live on Red Bull TV.
