HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya is not known to be one to pay much attention to fleeting fashion trends. A royal with a strong sense of fashion forged over her years interning at French couture houses and as a full-fledged designer, the Thai royal designer has always ditched the notion of short-lived seasonal offerings, or more precisely, of trends for seasons like fall and winter that are not relevant to her Thailand-based clients.

Then, along came 2019 and our stylish princess has finally acknowledged the plea of her affluent clientele, who requested for a winter wardrobe for their winter vacation in colder countries. HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has put on extra work hours and finally, we are treated with the first-ever autumn-winter collection from Sirivannavari. And mind you, this is definitely worth the wait!
The collection was presented earlier on Saturday at Park Hyatt Bangkok, combining Sirivannavari, her menswear line S'Homme and jewellery line Sirivannavari Bijoux into a delightful collection of 34 looks (27 of womenswear and 7 of menswear). Built from a range of winter wardrobe essentials such as overcoats, asymmetrical capes, jumpers, suits and even blanket scarfs, the collection is rich in textures and layering, with the autumn-winter 2019 season's omnipresent motif of heritage patterns: houndstooth, ginghams, Prince of Wales checks, you name it, sprinkled all over tweed suits, overcoats, scarfs, dresses, cape coats, Napoleonic jackets and cropped trousers.

Classic in terms of motif and forms as the this might feel, we have the princess's love for sporty and sensual elegance to thanks for the collection's overall savvy and youthful feel. The heavily woven textures are balanced by brocade and metallic sheen. The cropped length gives the bottoms a casual edge while some sporty/ streetwear items such as metallic zipped-up jacket, pleather biker jacket and knitted ski jumper feel altogether refreshing. Patchwork of contrasting textures: wool houndstooth and brocade or pleather with burnt velvet and brocade makes the whole collection feel sumptuous, and extra luxurious.
