Qatar Dethrones Singapore as the World’s Best Airline in 2019
According to Skytrax's annual World Airline Awards, Qatar Airways is now the number one airline in the world, knocking Singapore Airlines down to second place.
Meanwhile, Japanese airline ANA All Nippon Airlines remained at third place, Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific gained altitude from sixth to fourth place and Dubai-based airline Emirates slipped one place and came in fifth on the list.
This is not the first year that the flagship Middle Eastern carrier has won. In fact, it's been named the world’s best airline five times in total (2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011 in previous years).
[inline-quote author="Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group"]"It is a proud moment for the airline as our constant innovation and service standards set the benchmark in our industry."[/inline-quote]
For 2019, Qatar was also named the world’s best business class airline while holding the world’s best business class seat. This is quite possibly due to the fact that, in recent years, the airline became the first in the world to provide double beds in business class, as well as the new QSuite seats with a face-to-face quad configuration.

But not all was lost for Singapore Airlines, as they also won several other important industry accolades including the world’s best cabin crew, best first class and best first-class seat; it was also crowned the best airline in Asia.
Other notable wins include the world’s cleanest airline, awarded to Taiwanese international airline EVA Air; the best airline staff in Asia, which was given to Thai Airways; and the best business class in Asia given to ANA All Nippon Airways

Skytrax, which runs an aviation review and ranking website, bases its research for the awards on an annual global passenger survey which collated over 20 million responses from over 100 countries. Voted by consumers, the final results included over 300 airlines in which categories included elements such as cabin service, ground and airport experience as well as onboard experience and more.
