The Future of Travel is Airbus’ Smart Technology Aircrafts
Smart technology is becoming more prevalent by the day. It’s more than the apps on your phone, as technology has now infiltrated our homes and offices too. Airbus recognises the shift towards these conveniences in our everyday lives and answers to the growing demand in its inflight services. During Airbus Innovation Days in Toulouse, Airbus gave us all a little preview of what air travel will be like in 2030.
The aircrafts will be equipped with load-sensitive overhead storage bins to indicate the available stow luggage capacity, eliminating the search for baggage stowage.
But the upgrade isn’t only for passengers, it's for flight attendants too. To make their jobs easier, the aircraft seats will also self-report; meaning there will be fewer checks, up and down the isles, for passengers’ seatbelts to be fastened, tray tables stowed and seats in the upright position for takeoff and landing.
To ensure smoother operation of dining while in air, ‘smart’ galleys will provide airlines with relevant data to keep track of most preferred meals, foods and beverage items so that menus offer customers what they like best. And as an organisation always on the lookout for fresh ideas, Airbus will also keep their cabin software platform open to fliers who have interesting new suggestions.
“There will be more choices for passengers, more customised services, and new options” explains Ingo Wuggetzer, Vice President of Cabin Marketing at Airbus. “There are lots of opportunities and ideas that become possible once you have the data from the aircraft. There are a lot of creative people around to design apps; we just do the enabling and then it’s running.”
Though 11 years still seems a while away, we are already looking forward to these improvements for a smarter, smoother and safer way to travel in the air.

Qatar Dethrones Singapore as the World’s Best Airline in 2019
According to Skytrax's annual World Airline Awards, Qatar Airways is now the number one airline in the world, knocking Singapore Airlines down to second place.
Meanwhile, Japanese airline ANA All Nippon Airlines remained at third place, Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific gained altitude from sixth to fourth place and Dubai-based airline Emirates slipped one place and came in fifth on the list.
This is not the first year that the flagship Middle Eastern carrier has won. In fact, it's been named the world’s best airline five times in total (2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011 in previous years).
[inline-quote author="Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group"]"It is a proud moment for the airline as our constant innovation and service standards set the benchmark in our industry."[/inline-quote]
For 2019, Qatar was also named the world’s best business class airline while holding the world’s best business class seat. This is quite possibly due to the fact that, in recent years, the airline became the first in the world to provide double beds in business class, as well as the new QSuite seats with a face-to-face quad configuration.

But not all was lost for Singapore Airlines, as they also won several other important industry accolades including the world’s best cabin crew, best first class and best first-class seat; it was also crowned the best airline in Asia.
Other notable wins include the world’s cleanest airline, awarded to Taiwanese international airline EVA Air; the best airline staff in Asia, which was given to Thai Airways; and the best business class in Asia given to ANA All Nippon Airways

Skytrax, which runs an aviation review and ranking website, bases its research for the awards on an annual global passenger survey which collated over 20 million responses from over 100 countries. Voted by consumers, the final results included over 300 airlines in which categories included elements such as cabin service, ground and airport experience as well as onboard experience and more.
