Chaumet Pays Tribute to Celestial Beauty in Its New Collection
From Van Gogh’s twirling sun, through flocks of wading birds on Japanese prints, to Turner’s swirling skies, the celestial world and its wild inhabitants have always inspired the most beautiful works of art. Following the example of the great masters, Parisian jewellery house Chaumet also reached up to the heavens for inspiration for its new high- jewellery collection, Les Ciels de Chaumet (Skies of Chaumet), extending a journey that has celebrated nature since the maison’s inception in 1780.
Les Ciels de Chaumet comprises four lines, all featuring a pictorial and poetic theme, which come complete with tiaras, head jewellery, brooches, body ornaments, necklaces, pendant earrings and watches. According to Chaumet’s CEO Jean-Marc Mansvelt, the new collection shows how the jewellery house is moving forward with more contemporary styles by experimenting with new materials and techniques, while still adhering to house codes and trusted formulas.
[caption id="attachment_162090" align="alignnone" width="3929"] Les Ciels de Chaumet Envol Earrings[/caption]
“Elements of nature -- the sky, the sun, the birds -- have always been part of the creative DNA of Chaumet,” he says. “What we’re doing is to reinvent some aspects of fine- jewellery making by adding new perspectives and dimensions. We don’t try to adapt or twist or squeeze just to be trendy. Chaumet is what it is. This pleases our customers, even the younger ones, because they understand our heritage.”
The new collection starts with Les Caprices du Ciel (Capricious Sky), a suite of jewellery that attempts to capture the delicacy of clouds and the power of lightning. Illustrating the theme best is a stunning necklace featuring a host of glorious sapphires, amethysts and tanzanites and an exceptional 37.68-carat imperial topaz that serves as a detachable pendant.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/083562-Broche-Soleil-FT-OR-CTR-GRE-MAN-SPIN-OV.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/083654-Bague-Planetes-OG-D-BT-CT-OPALE-NOIRE_3Q.jpg" right-caption="Soleil de Minuit Brooch " left-caption="Passages Ring"]
Another showstopper is the Soleil Glorieux tiara. The colour palette may be simple, but this piece is still opulent and regal -- set in white and yellow gold, a huge fancy-intense yellow diamond is the focal point, surrounded by clouds of cabochon-cut rock crystals and an array of diamonds.
Meanwhile, Les Couleurs du Ciel (Colours of the Sky) captures the magical allure of the sun in all its guises. Whether it’s the soft light of dawn, the uncompromising brilliance of midday or the Technicolor vibrancy of sunset, Les Couleurs du Ciel bursts with fiery hues.
Colourful spinels from Tanzania and Vietnam, ranging from blue and red to green and yellow, run through to compose a richly hued parure. A stunning piece is the Soleil de Minuit bracelet in white gold, which is set with five pear- shaped absinthe-green chrysoberyls totalling 6.29 carats.
Twinkling stars light up Les Fulgurances du Ciel (Dazzling Sky). The star motif is a favourite of Chaumet, having existed in its library of works for the past 200 years.[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Les-Ciels_Collier-Planetes_V5-copie.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/083642-Collier-Lueurs-dorage.jpg" right-caption="Les Ciels Planetes Necklace " left-caption="Lueners d'orate Necklace "]
And what better way to show off a star-spangled night than crisp white diamonds floating like a galaxy of stars on the Étoiles Étoiles tiara? Complementary earrings feature strands of brilliant-cut diamonds cascading down like a starry waterfall.
There’s still plenty of colour elsewhere in this line. The Passages range of rings features large black Australian opals mixed with ice-blue and purple tourmalines. Exotic birds are placed in the spotlight in Les Habitants du Ciel (Inhabitants of the Sky), ably demonstrating the craftsmanship, virtuosity and creativity of Chaumet’s artisans. The Envol suite of bejewelled swallows -- bodies encrusted by garnets of green African tsavorite, while diamond wings are tipped with orangey-yellow gems -- shows the birds dipping and diving across a necklace, rings, earrings and brooches.
And in a joyous ode to the majestic crane, the Parade suite features the elegant bird in innovative designs. Standout pieces include a brooch in which a pair of birds with entwined necks dangle a large yellow diamond, and earrings that depict two separate avians clutching pink and blue sapphires.
The Les Ciels de Chaumet collection has already received rave reviews. With everything right going for it, it’s bound to become a coveted investment for those who can afford it.

Hermès Charms Hong Kong with the Enchaînements Libres Fine Jewellery Collection
Sometimes, a piece of jewellery is more than a thing of beauty. At times, it tells a tale of a bygone era, and becomes a symbol of courage and innovation. With Enchaînements Libres -- a beguiling new collection of fine jewellery -- Hermès enthrals Hong Kong by bringing one such story to life.
It is the chain that sits at the core of this narrative; by using the contrasting ability of metal -- as shackles are transformed into jewellery -- that the Enchaînements Libres collection explores freedom in chains. It also honours the maison’s equestrian heritage, dating back nearly 200 years, and the use of restraints on horses.
Pierre Hardy, Creative Director of Hermès Jewellery, explains, “At Hermès, the chain is a fundamental motif that draws on its origins as a harness-maker and saddler, and on a long tradition of chain-making know-how. Taking the chain as a theme is choosing to pay tribute to this unique métier while exploring a shape, a form of great symbolic richness. It connects and interconnects opposites, it attaches and liberates; it evokes strength, but also fluidity and softness.”
It is also the connection of jewellery to a woman’s body that allows the chain to become a piece of art. As the metal changes shape to embrace the female form, the jewellery becomes an emblem of independence and boldness.
[inline-quote author="Pierre Hardy, Creative Director of Hermès Jewellery"]"These pieces of jewellery are conceived as extensions of the body. I always seek to understand how they will actually be articulated, how they will flex and move with the body. They reveal gestures, enhance postures. They are objects with a lot of personality, light and radiance."[/inline-quote]
Six subsets of jewellery make up the Enchaînements Libres collection, including an exquisite array of chain-inspired necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings. Each and every piece is luxuriously designed with fine stones such as diamonds, sapphire, pearls, opal and black jade, artfully crafted in white, yellow and rose gold, as well as titanium.
The Collection
Adage Hermès
Created with a minimum of links, this necklace presents the chain as a sculpture. The simplicity of the design lies in its contrasts and asymmetry, as it combines rose gold with white gold that is pavé-set with brilliant-cut diamonds.

Hermès Fusion
The creative interplay of shapes in this necklace and earrings set celebrates the movement of the body. The unique lightness of titanium gives life to the design’s spectacular dimensions, while pavé-set brown diamonds create an enigmatic depth with their warm and luminous sparkle.

Hermès Voltige
The traditional chain is present in all its glory in this necklace, earring and bracelet set. With meticulous assembly work, the pieces transform into multi-layered ribbons of yellow gold, with a generous splattering of diamonds.

Hermès Grand Jeté
A profusion of colours and precious stones, this necklace and bracelet duo is as dynamic as it is playful. Varying lengths and shapes come together in exquisite form with the help of rose gold, diamonds, pink opals and black jade, pearls, orange sapphire and topaz.

Chaîne d’ancre zoom
Shifting proportions give character to this necklace and ring, as a large rock crystal cabochon, surrounded by diamonds, sits in the centre of the pieces, which are made of rose gold.

Hermès Petit Jeté
This delicate necklace is composed according to the principle of a random-link chain. With multiple components that seem to mould themselves to the rise and fall of the body, this intelligently organised disorder is punctuated with cushion-cut, pear-cut, and oval-cut diamonds.
[caption id="attachment_144328" align="alignnone" width="3417"] Hermès Petit Jeté necklace in white gold, diamonds (8.12 carats), two pear-cut diamonds (3.70 carats), one cushion-cut diamond (2 carats) and one oval-cut diamond (1 carat).[/caption]

A Journey of Colour, Brilliance and Exquisite Craftsmanship
For more than a century, six generations of the Boghossian family have committed themselves to creating fine jewellery that marries rare and precious gemstones with exquisite execution.
Based in Geneva and with stores in London, Gstaad and Hong Kong, Boghossian's expertise lies in the curation of its collection of exceptional fine gems. The jewellery house is also celebrated for its mastery of revolutionary craftsmanship such as the Inlay or its proprietary Kissing technique, in which one gemstone is set on top of another. The Merveilles, is another groundbreaking technique for near-invisible gemstone setting.
[gallery ids="136549,136551,136554,136558,136561"]
Last October, in the midst of London’s hectic autumn art season, the jewellery house introduced a new high-jewellery collection inspired by the Silk Road. The launch event, held at Whitehall’s Banqueting House, took place during a unique surrealistic dinner crafted by Charles Kaisin, while models dressed in Stephane Rolland outfits each displayed one of the high-jewellery sets from the Silk Collection.
The Silk Collection, consisting of 11 sets, pays homage to the Boghossian family’s predecessors, Armenian gem traders from Mardin, Turkey who traversed the Silk Road to eventually settle in Switzerland.
Boghossian’s Hong Kong-based creative director, Edmond Chin, worked closely with the family to design the new line. Each set in the Silk Collection was inspired by a masterpiece of ancient silk weavers or art and culture from key oases along the trade route, from Xi’an, China to Venice, Italy.
As with all Boghossian jewellery, some of the world’s rarest gems, gathered by the Boghossian clan from all over the world, appear in the new collection. The finished Silk Collection sees metal, hardstones and gemstones stream together seamlessly in an intricate tapestry of brilliance and colour.
The jewels also pay tribute to Boghossian’s own origins in Mardin. A necklace with interlaced rows of aquamarines set in diamonds pays homage to the intricate motifs found in the town’s limestone architecture.
The Tashkurgen set – a necklace with branches drenched in diamonds – is inspired by an imperial carpet from 16th-cenutry Mughal India and can be converted into a jewelled tiara.
Other notable pieces see influences from China, including the Seres bracelet set with antique jadeite tubes and rough diamonds with matching earrings; and the Xi'an inspired pearl cum jadeite necklace featuring a heart-shaped pendant with matching earrings.
