You know what they say â diamonds are forever. Here's everything new in jewellery that we're coveting for winter this year.
Chaumet: Taille ImpĂŠratrice Cut Diamonds
High-jewellery house Chaumet has made a major breakthrough in diamond cutting, creating a new patented diamond cut called Taille ImpĂŠratrice, featuring 88 facets for maximum brilliance and scintillation. The 88 facets are each individually shaped by hand, combining a hexagonal form with a star-shaped crown. The Taille ImpĂŠratrice diamond cut makes an appearance in new jewellery pieces in the Bee My Love collection.
Philips: Flawless X Vivarium, New Modernism
Phillips Flawlessâs online selling exhibition features 27 lots by 16 jewellery designers of the 20th and 21st centuries to celebrate the centenary of the Modernist Movement. There are exceptional pieces from Aldo Cipullo and Dinh Van, who designed for Cartier in the 1970s, as well as a beautiful brass-and-steel pin from the 1930s designed by Alexander Calder. New Modernism is a wonderful ode to the strong connection between jewel and art and paints a pretty picture of how abstract modernist designs makes for beautiful contemporary jewellery.
De Beers: The 1888 Master Diamonds
The 1888 Master Diamonds is De Beersâ latest offering of rare and exceptional loose diamonds, ranging from 5 to over 26 carats, which are sourced from its mines in Botswana and Canada. The diamondâs journey is extremely precious to De Beers, which showcases to its clients through images and videos the transformation of its 1888 Master Diamonds, from roughs through to the cutting and polishing stages.
Nalas x KrĂśller-MuĚller Museum
Jewellery brand Nalas has collaborated with the KrĂśller-MuĚller Museum in the Netherlands to launch an original art jewellery series called Shining Stars, inspired by Vincent Van Goghâs Trilogy of the Starry Nightsâ Terrace of a CafĂŠ at Night (Place du Forum), 1888, to be sold with its NFT at auction. The earrings, featuring more than 200 diamonds, was sold at Sothebyâs Magnificent Jewels: Part II in October.

Pradaâs Holiday 2021 Campaign Imagines a Snow Covered Los Angeles
Prada just unveiled its 2021 holiday campaign with A Midwinterâs Night Dream, a cinematic experience that uses ground-breaking technology and Hollywood stars to transport viewers and fans of the Italian fashion house into a festive dreamscape.
Imagine: infinite cotton-candy sky, its reflection in the snow and the ambiance so palpable that one could easily feel the frost on their cheeks. For this seasonâs holiday campaign, Prada created a serene world, frozen both in time and quite literally. Think The Lodge (but a lot less scary) or Eternal Shining of the Spotless Mind (but much more modern) elevated with the magic of Star Wars-grade special effects.
Deeply inspired by the power of cinema, Prada enlisted the help of director Glen Luchford and some of this generationâs brightest Hollywood stars: Julia Garner, Shira Haas, Louis Partridge and Taylor Russell. Under Luchfordâs eye, the actors journeyed across snow-swept Los Angeles in semi-collegiate getups to the Waltz of the Flowers. The dream, so meticulously woven by the creative minds behind the campaign, felt real, or at least as real as a multi-million-dollar Disney feature.
The ultimate suspension of disbelief in A Midwinterâs Night Dream was possible thanks to the Volume, a special effects tool most prominently used in The Mandalorian to achieve a remarkable sense of scale when creating fictional landscapes.
The 2021 Prada Holiday Campaign Takes us to Another World
The campaign's styling did not attempt to instil credence but rather accentuated its romanticism. The campaign featured Pradaâs latest rhinestone-studded oeuvre: cardigans, dresses, skirts, accessories, and shoes that were shimmering under the pastel lights of the LED screens. Apparently, in Prada Land, winter is not an excuse to abandon cropped cardigans and sheer blouses.
A Midwinterâs Night Dream is a new example of a brand building an entire world with its campaign. In the past, luxury players like Richard Quinn and Mugler succeeded in placing their collections into elaborate narratives. Prada, however, took the concept to the next level by utilising high-profile cinematography and Hollywood technologies, blurring the lines between fashion, cinema and reality.
