Qatar Airways spreads its wings to Langkawi
Making beautiful destinations more accessible to the world, Qatar Airways has officially celebrated the launch of new flights to the gorgeous islands of Langkawi in Malaysia. Starting from 15 October onwards, a sophisticated Boeing 787 Dreamliner will fly from Doha to Langkawi via Penang, and back, four times a week; this will be extended to five times a week from 27 October onward. And with 22 luxurious seats in business class and 232 spacious seats in economy, the international airline is all set to make this dream location a reality for as many passengers as possible. There’s certainly no doubt about the immense attraction of this Southeast Asian group of islands. With its dense green forests, shimmering blue waters of the Andaman Sea, white sand beaches, and lush mangroves, Langkawi has truly earned its title as the ‘Jewel of Kedah’. No wonder, then, that it found a much deserved spot on Travel + Leisure’s 50 Best Places to Visit in 2019.

With the chance to experience such natural beauty made so easy, it’s expected that Qatar Airways’ latest service offerings will tempt many a vacationer seeking to bask in the untouched glory of a tropical paradise to head out at the earliest. [inline_related_article article_id="150170"]

“The launch of Qatar Airways’ direct services to Langkawi certainly bodes well for the island and goes in line with our plans of further cementing its position as an international tourist destination,” said Dr. Hezri Bin Adnan, CEO of Langkawi Development Authority (LADA).
With the addition of these new flights, the multi-award-winning airline will now be servicing three cities in Malaysia, with Kuala Lumpur and Penang as the other two popular destinations. This special move shows Qatar Airways’ commitment to spreading its presence in Asia.

Qatar Dethrones Singapore as the World’s Best Airline in 2019
According to Skytrax's annual World Airline Awards, Qatar Airways is now the number one airline in the world, knocking Singapore Airlines down to second place.
Meanwhile, Japanese airline ANA All Nippon Airlines remained at third place, Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific gained altitude from sixth to fourth place and Dubai-based airline Emirates slipped one place and came in fifth on the list.
This is not the first year that the flagship Middle Eastern carrier has won. In fact, it's been named the world’s best airline five times in total (2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011 in previous years).
[inline-quote author="Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group"]"It is a proud moment for the airline as our constant innovation and service standards set the benchmark in our industry."[/inline-quote]
For 2019, Qatar was also named the world’s best business class airline while holding the world’s best business class seat. This is quite possibly due to the fact that, in recent years, the airline became the first in the world to provide double beds in business class, as well as the new QSuite seats with a face-to-face quad configuration.

But not all was lost for Singapore Airlines, as they also won several other important industry accolades including the world’s best cabin crew, best first class and best first-class seat; it was also crowned the best airline in Asia.
Other notable wins include the world’s cleanest airline, awarded to Taiwanese international airline EVA Air; the best airline staff in Asia, which was given to Thai Airways; and the best business class in Asia given to ANA All Nippon Airways

Skytrax, which runs an aviation review and ranking website, bases its research for the awards on an annual global passenger survey which collated over 20 million responses from over 100 countries. Voted by consumers, the final results included over 300 airlines in which categories included elements such as cabin service, ground and airport experience as well as onboard experience and more.
