Festive necessities, The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur way
With Christmas and all of its holiday components -- the carols, airports and homecomings, stuffing for breakfast and then again for lunch -- there's an atmosphere that encompasses it all, one that embodies cosy, warm, home. The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur is rich in its signature spirit of opulence and comfort, a perfect match for the energy of Christmas. In the city, the hotel is known for hosting elegant Christmas lunches and dinners, alongside surprises you won't find anywhere else.
All month long and into 2020, the hotel is celebrating with guests for enriched experiences, and it starts with Christmas shopping. This year's gifts collection is called Love & Joy. Just like Christmas of last, the collection presents two selections of The Majestic Hotel's Phalaenopsis Orchid -- the famous sight in its Orchid Conservatory. Available for purchase are the orchids that come with The Majestic Bear, as well with a Majestic Spa Experience.
Whether on the night before Christmas, the day of, or a belated Christmas catch-up, reservations are open for lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner throughout the hotel's dining establishments. Known most for its epic curation of breakfast stations, Contango is adopting a menu of roast turkey, mince pies and other mouth-watering festive treats for both lunch and dinner. A themed Christmas Afternoon Tea is available at The Tea Lounge, The Drawing Room, and The Orchid Conservatory. Still, the biggest celebration of all comes on Christmas Eve, with a traditional dinner at the Colonial Cafe. Picture a warm, glowing ambiance with a live performance by the renowned jazz family The Soliano; drinks like mulled wine by The Barman himself, Johnnie; and a menu by Chef Zaidi that includes roast turkey and a homemade Yule log.
If it's a break away with the boys you're looking forward to, then check out The Gentlemen's Experience at The Smoke House. With its 1930's vibe, The Gentlemen's Afternoon Tea is served with canapé-style bites alongside coffee and tea, as well as
a tankard of beer.
And finally, the festivities come to a close for 2019, but it's just the start of a year of celebrations in 2020 with the New Year's Eve party at Colonial Cafe. The hotel's biggest bash of the year, it's a fabulous evening filled with wine, decadent food, and live upbeat music featuring The Solianos. Chef Zaidi, Johnnie, and your host for the evening, Jay, are there to make to make it the perfect bittersweet goodbye to 2019 while setting the tone for a brand new, exciting year.
More details on dining packages and reservations for the festive season can be found on The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur's website.

The Vintage Honeymoon collection by Choo Yilin calls to romantic old souls
By now (or after you're done reading our interview with the jewellery designer herself), you'll know Yilin's passion for two things: story telling and jade. To quote ourselves on this one (ahem), Yilin "weaves the sentiment into beautiful pieces of wearable art".

The Singaporan brand's newest capsule collection is christened 'Vintage Honeymoon'. Inspired by old world glamour, Choo Yilin has roped in the likes of The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Express. These collaborative partners serve as the inspiration for the designs and in distinct ways too when you appreciate the colonial facade and interiors of the hotel, particularly the ambiance surrounding the English afternoon tea experience and cigar lounge at the Majestic Wing. On board the E&O is a strong reminiscence of early European opulence from the use of Jim Thompson's Thai Silk to fine dining with menus incorporating familiar flavours like lemongrass, ginger, pomelo and pineapple.

Yilin references two popular styles of accessorising from the 1930s; sautoir necklaces and seed pearl halos. Bringing that signature style to the pieces that the brand does so well, the pieces are fused with elements of Southeast Asian ornaments. The Sautoir Necklaces which typically saw pearls in the old era have been reimagined with Choo Yilin's signature gemstone, custom-cut Type A jadeite. With the seed pearl halos, the brand nods toward the lavishness identified with pearls at the turn of the 19th century, when pearls held higher regard than diamonds because cultured pearls had yet to be fully discovered.

Picture this: timeless devotion recognised on a honeymoon, combining two worlds of classic beauty and a modern day Southeast Asian love story. There you have it, the very essence of Choo Yilin's Vintage Honeymoon collection.
