8 Christmas Takeaways in Hong Kong to Make Dining at Home Easy

We never thought we'd say this but this season is all about the Christmas takeaway. In the past, you'd traditionally make plans to see all your friends and family and dine in at all the hotels and restaurants that are serving scrumptious turkey, all the sides and drink yourselves silly over mulled wine and eggnog. Unfortunately, with the pandemic still raging around us and tightened government restrictions, this all seems pretty unlikely. This doesn't mean we have to miss out on all our seasonal favourites though. Since we can't go to them, the restaurants are bringing themselves to us. Here's a list of the most delectable Christmas takeaways in Hong Kong that restaurants and hotels are delivering right to your door so you can enjoy the holidays in the comfort and safety of your own homes.

Cobo House

Opened for less than a year, Cobo House is already making a splash with its unconventional gourmet dining experience, headed by its two executive chefs Ray Choi and Devon Hou. The restaurant rides on the concept of serving only a tasting menu that will change every fortnight. The restaurant is currently serving Chapter Two — Spices & Aromas in the restaurant, but in light of the social distancing ban, Cobo House has decided to launch their first home delivery bento box for the festive season.

From now until December 31, Cobo House is offering a home delivery option called the "Cobo Culinary Box". Each box features five courses: three appetisers, followed by a main course (choice amongst two), and a dessert.

The Culinary Box menu:

HK$1,150 per box with a HK$200 delivery flat fee, except for outlying Islands

  • Three appetisers themed under Spices & Aroma
  • A choice of mains between the 10+ Spices Short Ribs or Fillet of Atlantic Cod
  • A Masala Treacle Gateau to finish

Each Culinary Box is packaged in a two-storey wooden bento box that can be cleaned and reused.

Henry, Rosewood Hong Kong

Chef Nathan Green's Christmas Turkey dinner is available for takeaway at the Rosewood Hong Kong.

The Irish style restaurant is offering both a three-course and a four-course festive menus.  It starts with a choice of hearty parsnip & apple broth, the slow-cooked Spanish octopus and roasted sweet potato rounds. The indulgence continues with a selection of six exquisitely crafted main courses to choose from, including a traditional oven-baked turkey breast with sage and chestnut stuffing, slow-cooked beef with red wine and chocolate sauce, apple-wood smoked salmon fillet, US prime rib-eye steak, Boston lobster risotto and a vegetarian option of eggplant rolled with ricotta cheese and Hungry Planet crabmeat. Complete your meal with their festive favourite rustic Christmas pudding with rum sauce, warm coconut fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream or a red fruit lemon tart, which will sure to leave you more than satisfied.

Pivo Czech Bar brings traditional flavours and Bohemian classics from Central Europe to our local dining scene like no other before. Their chef has crafted a Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve 3-course Set Dinner. To start, you’ll be able to choose from either the refreshing Sesame tuna, avocado, pomegranate & kohlrabi salad or the creamy Chestnut soup with cranberry and Smoked Turkey Toast as an appetizer. Moving onto the mains, guests can choose either the fish or steak option. The fish is a Pan-fried grouper with celeriac purée, spiced beetroot, and glazed fennel. While the steak is a flavourful and tender Black Angus striploin with Honey-sweet potatoes, brussels sprout and red wine sauce. Topping off the meal is the Mascarpone mousse with white chocolate chips and dark chocolate crumble.

For Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, Stormies is offering a 3-course Set Dinner. To whet the appetite, the meal begins with a Foie gras terrine with ruby port, pear, and croutons or a warm and hearty Sweet potato bacon soup with Crème Fraiche and Cranberry. Following the appetiser, guests can select from the two options, including the Seafood paella with prawns, clams, mussels, peas and saffron and the Grilled USDA ribeye steak with a Garden salad, Truffle Fries and Café de Paris butter. The dinner ends on a sweet note with the restaurant's scrumptious Apple Strudel with Vanilla Gelato.

For more of an Italian twist for the holidays, Cafe Deco Pizzeria is offering an inventive menu including the already made popular Christmas Turkey Pizza. This seasonal pizza is only available for the month of December. Taking the best bits of Christmas and to create a reinvented Italian classic, find toppings such as smoked turkey breast, pancetta, gammon ham, mozzarella, brussels sprouts and roasted chestnuts generously topped on handmade pizza dough. The signature Roasted Octopus is also a popular choice, coated in seasoned butter and cooked in a high-heat oven to achieve a crispy exterior with a soft chewy interior.

Enjoy Festive Feasts Featuring the Sea’s Bounty at Nanhai No. 1

Premium seafood has long been the centrepiece of a quintessential Chinese feast. So when it comes to festive feasting in Hong Kong, it's no wonder contemporary Chinese restaurant Nanhai No. 1 is offering menus brimming with fresh seafood. Three menu options take guests from Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve and feature high quality dishes and seafood throughout.

Inspired by the great Ming dynasty Chinese naval explorer Zheng He and named after his 15th-century 'treasure fleet' ship, Nanhai No. 1 makes use of fresh seafood daily. Sourced directly from the South China Sea, all luxury seafood dishes are prepared and presented to reflect their distinct contemporary Chinese cuisine, with accents and flavours from South East Asia coming through too. From roasted, steamed, stir fried or even baked, there are a number of dishes for guests to choose from.

Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, the 200-seat restaurant holds a spacious interior with the Victoria Harbour's iconic skyline acting as a stunning backdrop for guests. What's more, the design echoes the restaurant's concept with historical maritime artefacts. Guests can follow the ancient trading routes with maps of Zheng He’s voyage, along with an impressive model of the original Nanhai ship. Guests can also enjoy pre or post-dinner drinks at the Eye Bar which offers cocktails, wines and spirits, along with its signature seafood bites.

Festive Feasts

Guests are invited to dine with a menu of their choice, all of which feature a variety of seafood dishes. From a Nanhai style Shark's fin soup in a hot clay pot and succulent King prawn served in bang sauce, to tenderly Braised whole abalone, Crispy king crab, Deep fried lobster and also, crowd-pleasing items such as Kagoshima Wagyu. Wine suggestions with each menu are also available. Guests that make a reservation and prepay by 10 December 2019 will also be able enjoy a 10% early bird offer.
