Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Artistic Dialogue in Autumn/Winter 2019/2020

Ringing in autumn and winter, Dior presents a new campaign featuring Selena Forrest and Ruth Bell. The autumn/winter 2019/2020 ready-to-wear collection by Artistic Director of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri, is inspired by the rebellious elegance and creative audacity of Teddy Boys' Teddy Girls, counterparts of the English culture.

The Italian photographer Brigitte Niedermair shot the Dior campaign for the first time. His contemporary look sublimates, through a game of curves and abstractions, the icons of the Dior style.

A veritable ode to the sorority, this series of shots outlines the contours of an affirmed femininity, like the silkscreen T-shirts Sisterhood is Global and Sisterhood is Powerful. They pay homage to the literary works of the American feminist poet Robin Morgan.

The Collection

Like a modern echo in the '50s and the silhouette of the New Look, the Bar jacket has been redesigned in a more masculine line, highlighted by belts evoking the iconic curves of the Saddle bag. The latter, declined denim punctuated with the Dior Oblique pattern, is revealed alongside the Dior Book Tote and Diorcamp, both dressed in gingham, the iconic Lady Dior, revisited in matte leather, and the new home must-have , the 30 Montaigne bag, presented in an unpublished version in crushed lamb leather, with a vintage effect.

[gallery ids="156628,156631,156632"]

A standard of British culture dear to Christian Dior, the tartan meets the toile de Jouy and the leopard, fetish codes of the couturier-founder. A statement of elegance according to Dior, punctuated with precious couture accessories, where shoes and heels, with small heels, pearls and sunglasses hemmed with crystals, rub shoulders with the reversible veil bobs created by Stephen Jones, the British hatter of the House.

The Best Face Brightening Highlighters and How to Use Them

It’s all about the glow, but this season, it’s bigger than ever. Time and time again, the number one beauty trend is flawless, radiant skin. And why wouldn’t it be? A youthful, healthy complexion is always in style. While the glass skin trend is a long-term skin goal, a little highlighter can instantly fake brightness, height and dimension. Here’s our rundown of the best highlighters and where to apply them.

[inline_related_article article_id="145098"]

[caption id="attachment_148271" align="alignnone" width="641"] M.A.C. Cosmetics[/caption]

Tip and bridge of nose:

[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-444.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-443.jpg" right-caption="Guerlain Terracotta Skin Highlighting Stick" left-caption="Too Faced Unicorn Highlighting Stick"]

To give the illusion of a higher and thinner nose, glide a highlight stick (Guerlain Terracotta Skin Highlighting Stick for a more natural look, or Too Faced Unicorn Highlighting Stick for a more pearlescent dramatic look) from the bridge to the tip of your nose to accentuate the length. The highlighter will catch the light to open up the face.

Cupid’s bow:

[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-445.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-442.jpg" right-caption="YSL Beauté Touche Éclat All Over Brightening Pen" left-caption="By Terry Touche Veloutée"]

Dab a tiny amount right above the upper lip in the “V” hollow with a small brush or even your fingertip (YSL Beauté Touche Éclat All Over Brightening Pen or By Terry Touche Veloutée). Doing so will enhance the volume and shape of the lips, and really make your lipstick pop.

Below and above the eyebrow:

[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-441.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-440.jpg" right-caption="Huda Beauty 3D Highlighter Palette" left-caption="Chantecaille Lumière Rose"]

To open up your eyes and add more definition to your brows, blend a small amount of powder highlighter right underneath the arch (Huda Beauty 3D Highlighter Palette). A touch of shimmer can brighten up your eyes naturally. To enhance the eyes, a touch of highlighter (Chantecaille Lumière Rose) above is equally important as below the brows. As a result, the shape and colour of your brows will appear more prominent and defined.

Cheekbones:

[gallery ids="147989,147990,147991,148008"]

If there’s one place on the face that can benefit most from a highlight, it’s the cheekbones. Not only can it give you an instant lift, but when using the right product (Diorskin Nude Air PowderCharlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand or Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Highlighter & Balm Duo), it can also give you a naturally sun-kissed sheen. Swipe from your ear to the apple of your cheek using an angled brush and blend out. To contrast the highlight, adding a shadow in the hollows of the cheeks (Tom Ford Beauty Shade & Illuminate) which will create an even more intentional contour.

Forehead:

[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-436.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-435.jpg" right-caption="Fenty Diamond Bomb Veil" left-caption="Illamasqua Beyond Powder in Frost"]

An often overlooked spot on your face when it comes to highlighting, the forehead is in fact just as important as any other part. A light touch on the highest point of your face exudes a delicate sheen. An ultra-fine shimmer can give off a nice dewy effect (Rihanna’s Fenty Diamond Bomb Veil or Illamasqua Beyond Powder in Frost).

Chin:

[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-434.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Untitled-design-446.jpg" right-caption="Kevyn Aucoin The Neo-Trio Palette" left-caption="M.A.C. Hyper Real Glow Palette/Get Lit"]

Another seemingly unnecessary spot, a highlight to the chin can make it look more narrow. It can also help bring out the curves of the face to a delicate point that is in line with the popular V-shape face, while also slimming the jawline (M.A.C. Hyper Real Glow Palette/Get Lit or Kevyn Aucoin The Neo-Trio Palette).

Dior’s Tribute to Grace Kelly in “Grace De Monaco, Pricesse En Dior” Exhibition

This year, Dior presents an exhibition called Grace of Monaco: Princess in Dior, which pays tribute to the late Princess of Monaco Grace Kelly at Musée Christian Dior in Granville. The favourite actress of Alfred Hitchcock became Princess of Monaco in 1956 following her marriage to Prince Rainier III, and remains a legendary figure thirty-seven years after her death in 1982. On the occasion of the ninetieth anniversary of her birth, Musée Christian Dior is turning the spotlight on the personality and style of a princess and eternal icon. The exhibition runs from April 27-November 17, 2019.

DIOR MOMENTS WITH PRINCESS OF MONACO, GRACE KELLY

After meeting Prince Rainier, Grace began to express a particular taste for Dior creations. At the ball given for her engagement at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, she appeared in a dress made specially by the House’s ateliers, and posed, the same year, for an official portrait by Yousuf Karsh, in the haute couture dress Colinette, designed by the founding couturier for his autumn-winter 1956-1957 collection. After Christian Dior’s death, Marc Bohan, who became Creative Director of the House in September 1960, found in her the perfect embodiment of distinguished, modern, sober and refined elegance, in symbiosis with his own vision of couture. In turn, for the princess, Marc Bohan was not only a couturier in tune with the times and with Monegasque glamour, he was also a friend, an intimate of the family.

In 1967, the princess accepted to be a patron of the Baby Dior label, inaugurating the children’s boutique accompanied by the Creative Director. She decorated her own bathroom with the House’s perfume bottles and, at the Prince’s Palace, received Serge Heftler-Louiche, Christian Dior’s childhood friend from Granville who had become President of Christian Dior Parfums.

Boasting a selection of around eighty-five dresses from a wardrobe carefully preserved at the Monaco palace, the exhibition, which is curated by Florence Müller with the assistance of Gwenola Fouilleul, offers a «dual vision» of the princess: that of a public figure, noble and graceful in her official appearances, and that of a modern woman, wife and devoted mother. In addition to her Dior haute couture dresses, a range of portraits, photographs, media reports, excerpts from news films, ideas for party settings by the decorator and theatre costume designer André Levasseur, sketches, perfume bottles and letters testifying to her correspondence with the House all celebrate Grace’s charm and beauty.

From grand balls to official trips around the world, along with artistic events and charitable works, the exhibition reveals the princess’ ability to always choose outfits appropriate to the occasion, with a sense of spectacle inherited from her time in Hollywood tempered by the sober necessities of her royal status. In her family and private life, Grace prized comfort, contemporary simplicity and sporty allure that traced their origin to her American youth.

GRACE KELLY'S STYLE

Among the Dior pieces in her wardrobe, her preference for shirt dresses, tweed suits, blouse dresses, and outfits with clean and structured cuts is evident. When it came to evening, this ambassador of the arts favoured jewel embroideries as well as dresses of vaporous chiffon and use of feather embellishment that left an air of lightness and delicacy in her wake.

The many dresses printed or embroidered with flowers recall her personal fondness for creating floral arrangements and her taste for gardening.
It was a keen interest she shared with Christian Dior who, fascinated by the beauty of nature, had a passion for flowers and gardens since his childhood spent at Granville, a Normandy town dubbed the “Monaco of the North”, and with which the Grimaldi family has had a strong historical link since the eighteenth century.

Grace of Monaco was a woman of her time, for whom Dior fashion and style in particular were essential elements of the prestige of her first lady role and in harmony with an active life committed to the service of others. In the current Creative Director of the House, Maria Grazia Chiuri, she would have found a likeminded thinker, having herself noted: “I am basically a feminist. I think that women can do anything they decide to do.”*
