Hong Kong Gets its Own Scent with Le Laboâs New Bigarade 18 Fragrance
A fragrance has been said to exude certain feelings, represent you, trigger memories and even transport you somewhere. Thatâs what the team at New York perfumery Le Labo had in mind when designing its range of scents. In its newest line, City Exclusive, the thirteen fragrances have all been bottled with ingredients native to the origin, capturing the essence of the cityâs characteristics.
One of the 13 fragrances created is Bigarade 18, an exclusive scent dedicated to our very own Fragrant Harbour, Hong Kong. The intention behind Bigarade 18 is to bring forth the powerful tension of contrasting elements of the city â itâs old and new, rigid yet comfortable. As the name suggests, 18 ingredients have been blended to express that tug of war balance with the classical smell of citruses and white florals contrasted by transgressive notes of dark woods and ambergris.

Each location selected for the City Exclusives collection is meaningful to Le Laboâs founders and their upbringing and travel experiences. For Hong Kong, perfumer Eddie Roschi pays tribute to his version of Hong Kong (as he spent a part of his childhood here), expressing his personal experiences of the city back in the 80s.
[inline-quote author="Eddi Rosch, Le Labo Founder"]"I have memories of strolling through the hallways of the Repulse Bay Hotel that was lined with fragrant lilies and citrus trees. In developing Bigarade 18 for Hong Kong I wanted to mix the old classicism of âold schoolâ ingredients, whilst making a scent that stayed contemporary and unforgettable, a tribute to my exposure and memories of Hong Kong, a mix of old and new."[/inline-quote]
What differentiates the City Exclusives line of fragrances with others is that each fragrance will only be available for sale in its origin, with the exception of this September. For one month only, all 13 blends will be sold worldwide so you can get your hands on the scents of the world without purchasing that plane ticket.

Beauty Flight Plan: Travel Essentials for Any Destination
Between the dry cabin air, sodium-rich food and questionable hygiene standards, we can all agree that air travel is rough on our skin, our bodies and any attempt at looking or feeling halfway decent.
But with hours to do little else except watch movies and try, in vain, to sleep, flights can be the perfect time to indulge in some spa-style pampering. All of the products you see on these pages are TSA-approved (thatâs 100 ml/3.4 ounces or less for liquids, in case youâve forgotten) and so convenient that you can use them without even leaving your seat.
If you follow any celebrities or supermodels on social media, youâve probably read about or even seen selfies of them applying a sheet mask right after take-off. 111Skinâs version is a great option when flying, thanks to its gel-like structure and super-fine fibres that help lock moisture into the skin. Itâs designed for use before a big event or after a holiday, so be sure to bring one for the departing flight and one for the trip home.
If youâre worried about scaring fellow passengers with a full face mask, you can always opt for Laneigeâs new Cica Sleeping Mask. The yeast-enriched formula can help skin withstand external irritation, something thatâs practically guaranteed with plane travel.
Finally, when it comes to freshening up mid-flight or before landing, be sure to pack some moisturiser, fragrance, lip balm and hand cream. After all, just because you stepped off a 16-hour flight doesnât mean you have to look like you did.
