Get It Together, Alexander Wang

What’s going on with Alexander Wang? Mere months ago, he issued a non-apology following a bit of gaslighting in light of sexual assault allegations, and now Wang is back in the hot seat with a multi-million dollar copyright lawsuit. $75 million, to be specific. As reported by The Fashion Law, Wang — both the person […]

The 7 Handbags of the Season

Fifty metres underground — this is the depth that local winemakers chose when they decided to store 10,000 wine bottles in the Aven d'Orgnac caves, an underground tourist attraction located at the southern end of the limestone plateau of the Gorges de l'Ardèche.

The experiment began in March 2018, when a new storage facility was specially created in a disused access tunnel to allow wine to mature in what amounts to a highly stable and peaceful environment.

A living product that ages best in undisturbed darkness, the wine will have benefited from ideal conditions: A constant temperature of around 12°C and an all-year-long rate of humidity of over 95%.

On December 12, 1,000 bottles of Côtes du Vivarais "Grand Aven 2017" from this treasure trove will be passed from hand to hand by a chain of human volunteers who will bring them back to the surface after two years underground. Thereafter, they will go under the hammer with a range of other local vintages in an auction with modest reserve prices.

Lots on offer will include 150 magnums of Terra Helvorum 2017 starting at 30 euros, 350 bottles of 2015 Terra Helvorum for as little as 15 euros and 350 bottles of Grand Aven 2016 from just 10 euros.

On land and sea

These days, experiments to store wine deep underground are very much in vogue in France. On June 3 of this year, 500 bottles were placed in racks at a depth of 103 metres in caves in Padirac under the watchful eye of Serge Dubs, the Best Sommelier of the World in 1989.

The first of these to return to the surface will be brought up for an initial tasting in the spring of 2021. And let's not forget that this experiment is focused on a very particular wine: A Clos Triguedina Cahors, christened Cuvée Probus, which has been produced to honour the 130-year anniversary of the Padirac Chasm.

Surprisingly enough, this new approach to maturing wine was initially inspired by a find at sea. In 2010, divers in the Baltic discovered a wreck containing what turned out to be a cargo of champagne, which was probably on its way to 1840s Russia.

The wave of experimentation that is now ongoing began when the bubbly, which was made by such houses as Veuve Clicquot, Heidsieck and the now defunct Juglar, was discovered to still be delicious after some 170 years under water.

In Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the French Basque country, winemaker Emmanuel Poirmeur has registered a patent for a process that involves vinifying wine in special vats at a depth of 15 metres under water. For its part, Leclerc-Briant set a record when it vinified one of its champagnes at a depth of 60 meters under the Atlantic in 2012, not surprisingly the vintage was christened "Abyss."

Hailey Bieber Is the Face of the Alexander Wang x Bulgari Serpenti Campaign

Having just released the Alexander Wang x Gentle Monster collection, the Taiwainese-American designer is at it again with another crossover. Alexander Wang has just revealed a first look of the newest collaboration with Italian luxury brand Bulgari -- a continuation of the partnership first formed in 2017 -- titled 'Serpenti Through the Eyes of Alexander Wang', which is a special handbag capsule collection.

[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/2-3.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/9-3.jpg" right-caption="" left-caption=""]

Despite no longer showing his namesake label's collections during Fashion Week, Alexander Wang’s Bulgari collection is set to launch on 7 September at New York Fashion Week. This season, the collection is centred around the reinterpretation of the iconic Serpenti Forever Bag, taking inspiration from packaging that is traditionally overlooked and positioning it in the limelight. Throughout the series, we see packaging components such as the watch box, dust bag and paper shopping bags and, of course, Bulgari’s 1950s vintage-inspired serpent head jewel motif.

[inline-quote author="Alexander Wang"]"When Bulgari approached me to collaborate, I knew I wanted to create something that focused on the everyday overlooked items when purchasing luxury goods and transform it into something desirable for a global consumer of all ages. "[/inline-quote]

The face of the campaign is none other than his muse -- supermodel and wife of Justin Bieber -- Hailey Bieber. The 22-year-old has previously worked with Wang, most memorably at this year’s Met Gala, where she stole the show in a millennial pink sequinned thong gown with the designer by her side.

[caption id="attachment_160722" align="alignnone" width="683"] Hailey Bieber for Alexander Wang x Bulgari[/caption]

Bieber models the bag within the store setting (and glass display cases) to nod to the fine jewellery heritage of the 135-year-old brand, styled in monochromatic outfits to push the focal point onto the pieces themselves. The collection includes six different styles available in a range of materials and sizes, most notably in mint green -- paying tribute to Bulgari’s Eau Parfumee au Thé Vert, Wang’s favourite fragrance growing up.

Since its initial release, supermodel Gigi Hadid has already given the collection its first street style debut. It won’t be long before the new "it" bags makes their way to Hong Kong and into the hands of the city’s most stylish denizens.

Alexander Wang and Gentle Monster Unveil a Slithering Set of Snake Sunglasses

Alexander Wang and cult South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster have collaborated once again, following last year's colourful CEO sunglasses sunglasses. The new eyewear range, titled M.PRI$$, was first revealed on the runway at the Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2019 show and is now set for release next month.

[gallery ids="159786,159787,159788,159789,159790,159792"]

The collection features two colour variations: The first is a black frame with gold details and the second is clear with silver details. Both come with 3D metallic snakes that wrap around the frame and flat oval lens, while the silhouette holds a subtle cat-eye shape. Each pair is presented in a large zip leather case, complete with Alexander Wang and Gentle Monster branding. We adore the black pair, which is chic, bold and adaptable for occasions, but feel the clear sunglasses allow a more casual aesthetic with a modern edge.
