Performances by Ed Sheeran, Cardi B and Bruno Mars in the Next Virtual Concert, PlayOn Fest

The new normal has challenged us all in adopting new ways to live and enjoy the things we love. And though not all things can be done in the confines of our homes, creative juices are flowing in hopes of finding alternatives to soothe our loneliness and boredom. In an attempt to alleviate our cravings for live music, Lady Gaga hosted One World: Together At Home, a virtual concert with a lineup of more than 100 entertainers. Following suit is Warner Music Group, who are pulling their label’s signees and industry friends to host PlayOn Fest – a 72 hour music festival to raise funds for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund by World Health Organization (WHO).

Running from 24 to 26 April, PlayOn Fest will stream via the festival’s official website and on Songkick’s YouTube channel. The three-day event will feature past musical performances from over 65 of the label’s associated musicians. This will include top artists and groups such as Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Panic! At the Disco, Green Day, Coldplay, Charlie Puth, Wiz Khalifa, Dead Cab for Cutie, David Guetta, and many more.

The curation of these past clips isn’t all there is. PlayOn Fest is also offering special access to legendary footage that they claim has never, and never will be available again, been online anywhere else, making this an extremely exclusive and unmissable opportunity. One such release is the late Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap album release show held at Hollywood Palladium back in 2018.

To support the cause and tune into the festival, donations are encouraged and exclusive PlayOn Fest merchandise will also be available to shop online.

Global Call for Art: The Wellbeing Project and Amplifier Launch Campaign to Promote Mental Health

In response to the global pandemic, many brands and corporations have launched efforts to help support the fight against COVID-19. From stay-at-home concerts that fund research to fashion manufactories transforming into medical mask and gown providers, the response has been impressive to say the least. It goes without saying that coming together in this time of crisis is of the utmost importance and one such way to do that is through art.

The Wellbeing Project, a co-created initiative focused on cultivating social change culture, has partnered with design lab Amplifier to launch a global call for art and competition campaign centred on mental health and wellbeing  in challenging times. After all, as Amplifier beautifully puts it: "Your art has power. Art can heal, art can save lives, and art can bring us together even while we are apart."

The art competition calls for two kinds of work

  1. Public health and safety messages to help flatten the outbreak curve through visuals of education
  2. Illustrations and symbols to promote mental health, well-being, and social change work during these stressful times

While expressing and exploring public safety and mental health, the competition also aims to support its art community and will award 60 artists with a cash prize worth US$1,000 each. Winning works will be announced each week during the month of April and then distributed online and in the physical locations too. What's more, the art panel includes some of the world's top art curators including Curator of Guggenheim Nancy Spector, American contemporary street artist Shepard Fairy and fashion designer Vivienne Tam -- who is the only Hong Kong judge on the jury.

The global call for art ends on Thursday, 30 April 2020. To submit your art work, or find out more, click on the Amplifier website here.
