Bvlgari and Save the Children launch new pendant to mark 10-year partnership

Bvlgari Save the Children 10th anniversary 2019

Commemorating the anniversary of a cause that has helped millions of children across the world surely deserves an extra special gesture. And that’s just what Bvlgari did recently with the launch of a unique pendant-necklace to celebrate their 10-year partnership with Save the Children. What makes the occasion even more significant is the fact that it also honours the 100th anniversary of the international charity.

[caption id="attachment_149070" align="alignnone" width="1600"]Bvlgari Save the Children 10th anniversary 2019 The design is inspired by the Italian brand’s iconic Bvlgari Bvlgari collection. (Photo: Bvlgari)[/caption]

Made of sterling silver and onyx, the pendant-necklace is inspired by the Italian brand’s iconic Bvlgari Bvlgari collection, and is a reinterpretation of one of their most recognisable designs. A bold double logo encircles the smooth, hard-stone disk, while a precious red ruby from Mozambique sits at the top of the pendant like a tiny crown. The back features the logo of Save the Children, with its eponymous message. It retails at €750 (US$840), of which €75 (US$84) will be directly donated to the foundation.

This latest addition is a part of the Italian maison’s custom-made Save the Children jewellery collection, which until now comprised three silver and black ceramic pieces — a ring (€530), bracelet (€560) and pendant (€600). An amount of €75 from each of these will also go to the charity.

So far, the collection has helped Bvlgari raise nearly €80 million (US$90 million) globally for the humanitarian agency. And this fund has been used to invest in educational programmes and projects geared towards youth empowerment, emergency response and fighting poverty.

[caption id="attachment_149072" align="alignnone" width="1600"]Bvlgari Save The Children 10th anniversary 2019 Bvlgari and Save the Children launched the “Thuto Ke Lefa” – “Education is wealth” project, with the objective to enhance the quality of learning outcomes in Literacy and Mathematics in early and primary basic education cycles for thousands of 3 to 8 years old children from the Limpopo province. “Ten years ago, Bvlgari and Save the Children put their strengths together with the dream to achieve a tangible impact on the lives of the most vulnerable children around the world, directly reaching over 2.1 million beneficiaries, of which 1.5 million are children,” said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari.

The main idea behind the release of the pendant-necklace is to achieve Bvlgari’s fresh target of rounding off its overall donations to SG$137 million (US$100 million) within a year. While this goal might seem challenging, it is one that both partners have taken on with hopeful spirit and confidence.

“Today, drawing inspiration from our joint past, we keep looking together to the future, in the steadfast belief that education can save lives. In 10 years of shared vision and a century of progress for children, together we could reach for the ‘ambitious’ target of $100M of raised funds and millions of dreams that became – and will keep becoming – true,” said Babin.

Louis Vuitton launches new men’s jewellery collection by Virgil Abloh

Louis Vuitton launches new men's jewellery collection by Virgil Abloh

Few brands combine innovation with style with such effortless panache as Louis Vuitton. And that is precisely what is reflected in the luxury house’s latest men’s fashion jewellery collection of bracelets, necklaces and rings, conceptualised by its men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh. The unique selection is a reinterpretation of the classic menswear chains that were first seen in a range of accessories and leather products at the French brand’s Spring/Summer 2019 show in Paris.

Bringing a fresh burst of diversity to the iconic marque, Abloh dives deep into his edgy, streetwear sensibilities with this collection to attract a new cliental. And pays tribute to Cuban chain jewellery — a favourite among many rappers, hip-hop musicians, skateboarders and other cultural subsets — at the same time.

Each bracelet and necklace in this series comes in two variations, minimalistic and colourfully vibrant. This means you can choose the style depending on the occasion: A quiet statement piece for a formal affair or a flamboyant accessory for the MTV award. The former comprises a refined, entirely palladium-finished version, featuring elements of the famous LV monogram across it. The latter is a multi-hued chain presenting coloured enamel in orange and blue tones, brass with aged-gold effect and many-hued crystals; like its counterpart, this model also has a palladium finish marked by LV engravings.

[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/LV-Chain-Links-Patches-Bracelet-2.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/LV-Chain-Links-Bracelet.jpg" right-caption="Coloured chain link patches bracelet (Photo: Louis Vuitton)" left-caption="Chain link patches bracelet (Photo: Louis Vuitton)"]

In addition, two other pieces form a part of this range — a striking pendant and signet ring set in white ceramic. Both are embossed with monogrammed, palladium-finished brass.

The design aesthetic of this series, however, is not the only aspect that attracts attention. A newly constructed clasp that involves a cleverly constructed cylindrical slide component ensures that these bracelets and necklaces are securely fastened and, hence, virtually snatch proof.

The embellished presence of Louis Vuitton’s logo, along with the ‘R’, the registered trademark symbol, is visible not just on every clasp, but in every piece of the collection.

In effect, signature Louis Vuitton savoir-faire has been artistically aligned with Virgil Abloh’s vision of style to create a very distinctive set of men’s jewellery.

Chopard Unveils Shimmering Red Carpet Collection at Cannes Film Festival

Love was the theme for Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection of exquisite jewellery and watches, launched at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on 14 May. Designed by Caroline Scheufele, co-president and artistic director of the Swiss luxury house, this selection comprised of 72 necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches and jewellery-watches. The stunning haute joaillerie creations were worn by some of the world’s most talented actresses as they made their way down the red carpet for the famous ‘mondtée des marches' ritual. These included Amber Heard, Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning and Zhang Ziyi to name, but a few.

[gallery ids="146898,146895,146897,146894"]

Chopard — the Artisan of Emotions — has been an official partner of the prestigious film event since 1998. And so, the star-studded international affair was, perhaps, the perfect setting for the debut of this series. Meant to celebrate love in its most diverse forms, each piece is an ode to colour, daring shapes and precious stones.

Colourful Beginnings

Among the many choices is a remarkable set — a necklace and a pair of earrings — featuring heart-shaped tanzanites, Paraiba tourmalines, amethysts and diamonds placed in circles of ethical white gold and titanium. The necklace alone called for 500 hours of work, testifying the levels of perfection embodied by Chopard. This trait can be seen expressed in their choice of breathtakingly beautiful gems, too. Witness a 111-carat, cabochon-cut emerald mounted on a floral-inspired necklace, as well as exceptional pink diamonds showcased on solitaire rings.

Presenting a different style, two pairs of chandelier earrings testify to Chopard’s mastery of titanium. Known for its lightness, this metal supports a cascade of either tanzanites or amethysts, with the coloured titanium appearing to vanish entirely so as to magnify the brilliance of the gems.

Other talismans, such as sautoir necklaces, feature subtly graded shapes evoking the colours of a rainbow. And finally, two bracelets set the perfect finishing touch. One offers a pleasing combination of Paraiba tourmalines, tanzanites, amethysts and sapphires. And the other associates the orange tone of a Spessartite garnet with the green and blue shimmer of an opal, emerald and sapphire setting.

Floral Inspirations

Because love is often expressed with flowers, Caroline has designed a set of rings and earrings resembling astonishingly lifelike orchids. Vividly showcasing the maison’s technical expertise, the dainty titanium flower stems are adorned with diamonds, amethysts and sapphires. The petals on the earrings are paved with diamonds and amethysts, while those of the ring are delicately decorated with pink sapphires and diamonds.

Time for Love

Chopard’s elegant jewellery-watches make an impactful impression in the Red Carpet Collection, as well. Set with diamonds that form a lacework motif, these timepieces welcome rare precious stones — sapphires, rubies, emeralds or pink and yellow diamonds — to their dials.

Love with Care

In keeping with the Swiss house’s commitment to the environment, the collection also features three special pieces — a cuff bracelet, necklace and pair of earrings. Each of these have been crafted using ethical Fairmined certified gold and diamonds sourced from Responsible Jewellery Council-approved suppliers.

An Artist’s Vision

A selection of illustrations by talented artist Meghan Hess, specially commissioned by Caroline, provided a unique interpretation to this collection. A romantic dinner under a pendant chandelier inspired by ruby and diamond earrings, a flower plucked from a greenhouse filled with arums, or the terrace of a hotel beneath a sparkling sapphire sky — all gave splendid life to the theme of love explored by this inspired Red Carpet Collection.

Hermès Charms Hong Kong with the EnchaÎnements Libres Fine Jewellery Collection

Sometimes, a piece of jewellery is more than a thing of beauty. At times, it tells a tale of a bygone era, and becomes a symbol of courage and innovation. With EnchaÎnements Libres -- a beguiling new collection of fine jewellery -- Hermès enthrals Hong Kong by bringing one such story to life.

It is the chain that sits at the core of this narrative; by using the contrasting ability of metal -- as shackles are transformed into jewellery -- that the Enchaînements Libres collection explores freedom in chains. It also honours the maison’s equestrian heritage, dating back nearly 200 years, and the use of restraints on horses.

Pierre Hardy, Creative Director of Hermès Jewellery, explains, “At Hermès, the chain is a fundamental motif that draws on its origins as a harness-maker and saddler, and on a long tradition of chain-making know-how. Taking the chain as a theme is choosing to pay tribute to this unique métier while exploring a shape, a form of great symbolic richness. It connects and interconnects opposites, it attaches and liberates; it evokes strength, but also fluidity and softness.”

It is also the connection of jewellery to a woman’s body that allows the chain to become a piece of art. As the metal changes shape to embrace the female form, the jewellery becomes an emblem of independence and boldness.

[inline-quote author="Pierre Hardy, Creative Director of Hermès Jewellery"]"These pieces of jewellery are conceived as extensions of the body. I always seek to understand how they will actually be articulated, how they will flex and move with the body. They reveal gestures, enhance postures. They are objects with a lot of personality, light and radiance."[/inline-quote]

Six subsets of jewellery make up the EnchaÎnements Libres collection, including an exquisite array of chain-inspired necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings. Each and every piece is luxuriously designed with fine stones such as diamonds, sapphire, pearls, opal and black jade, artfully crafted in white, yellow and rose gold, as well as titanium.

The Collection

Adage Hermès

Created with a minimum of links, this necklace presents the chain as a sculpture. The simplicity of the design lies in its contrasts and asymmetry, as it combines rose gold with white gold that is pavĂŠ-set with brilliant-cut diamonds.

[caption id="attachment_144322" align="alignnone" width="3033"] Adage Hermès necklace in white gold, rose gold and diamonds (110.56 carats).[/caption]

Hermès Fusion

The creative interplay of shapes in this necklace and earrings set celebrates the movement of the body. The unique lightness of titanium gives life to the design’s spectacular dimensions, while pavé-set brown diamonds create an enigmatic depth with their warm and luminous sparkle.

[caption id="attachment_144325" align="alignnone" width="3442"] Hermès Fusion earrings in rose gold, titanium and brown diamonds (approx. 13 carats).[/caption]

Hermès Voltige

The traditional chain is present in all its glory in this necklace, earring and bracelet set. With meticulous assembly work, the pieces transform into multi-layered ribbons of yellow gold, with a generous splattering of diamonds.

[caption id="attachment_144329" align="alignnone" width="3046"] Hermès Voltige bracelet in yellow gold and diamonds (3.40 carats), Hermès Voltige earrings in yellow gold and diamonds (1.41 carats).[/caption]

Hermès Grand JetÊ

A profusion of colours and precious stones, this necklace and bracelet duo is as dynamic as it is playful. Varying lengths and shapes come together in exquisite form with the help of rose gold, diamonds, pink opals and black jade, pearls, orange sapphire and topaz.

[caption id="attachment_144327" align="alignnone" width="3417"] Hermès Grand Jetè necklace in rose gold, diamonds (34.56 carats), orange sapphire (8.30 carats), black jade, pink opals and grey pearls.[/caption]

Chaîne d’ancre zoom

Shifting proportions give character to this necklace and ring, as a large rock crystal cabochon, surrounded by diamonds, sits in the centre of the pieces, which are made of rose gold.

[caption id="attachment_144323" align="alignnone" width="4566"] ChaĂŽne d'ancre zoom ring in rose gold, diamonds (1.87 carats) and rock crystal.[/caption]

Hermès Petit JetÊ

This delicate necklace is composed according to the principle of a random-link chain. With multiple components that seem to mould themselves to the rise and fall of the body, this intelligently organised disorder is punctuated with cushion-cut, pear-cut, and oval-cut diamonds.

[caption id="attachment_144328" align="alignnone" width="3417"] Hermès Petit JetÊ necklace in white gold, diamonds (8.12 carats), two pear-cut diamonds (3.70 carats), one cushion-cut diamond (2 carats) and one oval-cut diamond (1 carat).[/caption]

Phillips to Auction Prestigious Jewels and Jadeites at Spring Sale in Hong Kong

The much-anticipated Phillips Jewels and Jadeite Spring Sale will be held on 27 May in Hong Kong. It will feature exceptional gemstones, historical jewels and vintage jadeite jewellery, all of which will be on display from 23 to 26 May at the JW Marriott in Admiralty.

Founded in 1796, Harry Phillips was an auctioneer with an acute sense of business and a flair for showmanship. And, although the company has changed ownership many times since, the Phillips name has stayed strong. Today, the auctioneers are a well-regarded name among collectors of contemporary art, watches and fine jewellery.

Connoisseurs and tastemakers can view these exquisite pieces before the bidding begins at the International Highlights Tour, which kicked off in Singapore, continued through to Shanghai and finally this weekend in Taipei.

Among the glittering lot to go under the hammer on 27 May in Hong Kong are a distinctive Ashoka cut diamond and a unique sautoir necklace. Here are some of the highlights from the sale:

Indian Brilliance

[caption id="attachment_143481" align="alignnone" width="768"] Lot 632, estimated value: HK$2,500,000 — HK$2,800,000.[/caption]

Only a very special kind of rough can become the patented Ashoka diamond. After all, it takes a total of 62 facets – four more than a standard round — for it to have the desirable rarity.  Legend has it that Indian king Ashoka once came across a breathtaking 41.37 carat, D flawless diamond; he believed it had the power to banish all sorrow. Centuries later, William Goldberg, inspired by this mystical diamond, developed a unique cut resembling the original Ashoka diamond’s long cushion shape. This ring has a 10.05-carat Ashoka-cut diamond to its credit. The gallery and shank are set with tiny brilliant-cut diamonds.

Glamour of Green

[caption id="attachment_143482" align="alignnone" width="4503"] Lot 610, estimated value: HK$780,000 — HK$880,000.[/caption]

Jadeites are prized for their translucency and the quality of reflecting a water-like substance within them. This bangle’s beauty lies in the graceful setting of 17 oval jadeite cabochons amid a sparkling cluster of pavé-set diamonds. The structural mechanism expands and closes allowing the wearer to put it on with ease.

Still got the Blues

[caption id="attachment_143476" align="alignnone" width="1476"] Lot 630, estimated value: HK$7,500,000 — HK$8,500,000.[/caption]

Harry Winston is a master of producing intricate designs that enhance the natural brilliance of diamonds. One such invention, born out of the desire to produce the most vibrant diamond jewels, is the signature Winston Cluster. A striking example of this setting will be auctioned during the Spring Sale. It is a pair of sapphire and diamond pendant ear-clips. What makes this set particularly special, are two cushion-shaped sapphires, over 5 carats each, unearthed from the famed mines of Kashmir.

Magic and Mystery

[caption id="attachment_143490" align="alignnone" width="1299"] Lot 552, estimated value: HK$850,000 — HK$950,000.[/caption]

One of the rarer shapes in coloured diamonds is the round brilliant-cut. This is due to the high wastage during the cutting process and the general undermining of the colour saturation. However, a beautiful anomaly presented itself when this pair of pink diamond earrings surfaced in the jewellery market. This pair of earrings, with its two circular-cut intense pink diamonds, has a charming intense saturation despite its round brilliant-cut, while the feminine ribbon in scroll-mounted baguette diamonds enhance the beauty even further.

Vintage Glory

[caption id="attachment_143493" align="alignnone" width="1772"] Lot 617, estimated value: HK$4,300,000 — HK$5,800,000, shown here as pendant/brooch.[/caption]

In the 1920s, French maison Mauboussin garnered attention for its bold jewellery designs. They were vibrant and sharp with quintessential Parisian Art Deco designs, instead of the trending ostentatious ones. One of the striking examples of Mauboussin’s earliest haute joaillerie creations is this unique sautoir necklace. Set with 12 carved rubies, it is highlighted by fluted emerald beads and multi-coloured gemstones. The Giardinetto-style pendant doubles up as a brooch, while the necklace gold links can be separated to form four individual bracelets.

Water of the Sea

[caption id="attachment_143483" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Lot 549, estimated value: HK$320,000 — HK$400,000.[/caption]

The alluring aquamarine’s greenish-blue colour has made it a desirable gem for centuries. When the first few were unearthed in the Santa Maria de Itabira mine in Brazil, they were a rare saturated deep blue colour with ‘eye clean’ clarity. This ring gets its glamour from a magnificent 61.95 carat, step-cut aquamarine in a natural crisp blue hue. While most aquamarines require heat treatment to achieve a deep blue hue, this ring presents no such indications. A spectacle of nature, indeed.

The Hong Kong preview of the Jewels and Jadeite Spring Sale will take place from 23 to 26 May 2019, at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, 88 Queensway, Admiralty; the auction will take place on 27 May at 2:20pm at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. If you can’t be in Hong Kong for the auction, you can still bid via the Phillips app. For more information, check out the website www.phillips.com
