this time last year

This time last year, I was a different person, but weren’t we all? Just like the unremitting flux of the seasons, we continue to shed our leaves and go through stages of dormancy, change and regrowth. Yet somehow, part of us always remains the same, the core of our being, who we are, always were, and will always be. This time last year, my hair was darker, complexion lighter, and my skin had fewer scars and freckles from life’s undertakings. But physical change is a part of nature, and no being is excluded from it’s irrevocable effects. It’s a blessing to have been given the opportunity and time that these signs of weathering were born from. This time last year, I had gone through fewer heartbreaks, hurts and struggles. But had not yet had the opportunity to learn from them, and grow stronger instead of harder. It’s important to embrace both the wonderful and seemingly inconvenient and regrettable junctures in life – which is the place we often learn the most. This time last year, …

fall’s last fight, the sun sets and the season changes

The sky is buttery cream, blurring softy with the tree tops. Flashes of gold flicker between the branches, and through the window one can hardly imagine the forbidden cold that lies just on the other side of the glass. The waters glow like crystalized roses, fading into grey as it slowly disappears over the horizon. The sun sinks a smidge more, and the golden trees transform into dark shadows against the intensely glowing sky of pinks, orange and gold. For a flash, all colors become vibrant, one last hurrah before the sun retreats for the night. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | felt hat c/o:LULUS | knit dress c/o:LULUS | sherpa vest c/o:LULUS | velvet pumps c/o:LULUS Grey, quiet, stillness. Dusk folds over the earth, a foreshadowing of the season to come. The crisp chill of the morning past is pushed away and replaced with a haunting cold. The motion forces leaves from their branches, fluttering to the ground in defeat. Solders lost in the fight of the season’s bitter sweet transformation. Darkness. …

The elephant keeps walking as the dogs keep barking. Something they don’t teach you in business class. This adage from India came from my partner in crime, and I will continue to keep the words in heart. With the growth of success, comes an onslaught of negativity. And no, I’m not talking about constructive criticism that helps you grow. I’m talking about the truly nasty, nonfactual, and unprofessional based nagging and manipulation of situations with seemingly no purpose or cause. You’ve probably worked with a few such people in your life, and if you continue to grow in a path of success, you can probably expect a lot more. While the spirit’s first reaction may be to reflect the attitude, the best advise I’ve received: The elephant keeps walking as the dogs keep barking. The fact of the matter is, you’ll never be able to train the dogs. Instead, an elephant walks steadily through the streets, seemingly unaffected by the barking around them. Focus on your goals and how to achieve them. The rest around you, is just noise fading away. photography:KUNDAN …

day in my dreams

Took a dive, started on a whim, and ended up being one of the most incredible adventures I could have asked for – Happy 1st year anniversary to day in my dreams. The experience is beyond what I could ever have expected it to be, and you have made it that. Thank so much for supporting me from the very beginning through this first year. Your encouragement and inspirations have not only kept me blogging, but also brightened many days in my own personal life, like a close group of friends along for one of life’s many journeys. Having this opportunity to take something that is a passion and inner release for me, and being able to share that and interact with so many incredibly talented people, brands, and companies – is something I will be forever grateful for. I feel truly blessed. Also, feeling a bit cheesy (but truly want to know how grateful I am for each of you) after this extended speech – so let’s get back to it shall we? Thought it appropriate to make …
